This is a world where technology reaches new standards. In a big city in Japan, people walk the streets hand in hand with their fellow persocoms, which are computers that usually have the appearance of female humans, though there are some exceptions. There are some persocoms that take the form of a male human, or a creature.

Persocoms are very realistic in appearance, and the only thing that sets them apart from a human is their ears which appear a little something like this:

There are a special kind of persocoms known as Chobits who can actually have feelings and learn without special software. However, these are extremely rare, almost non-existant, and nobody knows who could craft such a persocom.
