When Jesus was around, as we see, he was a liberal. In one part of the bible it explains, he showed "Hate" crimes towards the temples by fliping the merchants tables off of the temples steps.
Later on in life.
A group of people known as the Protestants, root word Protest.
Why did this group form?
To protest against the church for acting like a political party.
They began to battle, and agrue about there views.
They used victims of possession to prove what "Faith" was stronger.

My question is, Is Christianity a Faith or Religion?

Diffentions of Faith and Religion:

Religion (n)- a set of guidlines or rituals that one must follow.
Examples: Islamic, Judism, Christianity.

Faith (n)- A hunch or being hopeful in something.
Examples: Bill was faithful he was going to get a puppy.

Debate:
Is Christianity a Religion or Faith?

(I gotta go, so I will write some more when I get home, sorry simful for the lack of details, I will add more later)

(Off topic, but I have a news article that I am getting paid for and I am stuck, if someone is a good journalist and they can help me, pm me please!)

As for the actual topic...

It is both. Religion is an organized set of beliefs, which Christianity has. Faith is a firm belief in something which has no proof. Christianity can be this. However, one may have persona proof, and thus the faith aspect disappears.

Christianity is both a religion and a faith. Religion generally refers to a set of beliefs with rules and moral codes that are adhered to and usually involves some sort of deity. Christianity, regardless of the sect or denomination, fits that.

Faith is generally a belief in something that cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Christianity also fits that description.

"Faith" is a much more broad word that encompasses a lot of things. It could even be argued that atheism is a type of faith; that is, the faith that there is no God, since the existence of God is damn near impossible to undoubtably prove one way or another. Faith more or less includes any set of beliefs that has any sort of subjectvity to it, including all religion, nearly all philosophies, and most moral values.

Religion is usually used to refer to something more organised and something that's agreed upon by a group of people. Although there's a lot of varience (is that a word?) in some of the details in Christian beliefs, it's still generally organised and has a set of rules that are adhered to (though not all generally accepted Christian rules are followed by every Christian, there is still a vague sort of organisation and agreement on most key things; that God exists and that Jesus was the Son of God who died for our sins, for example).

And don't worry. Your first post is fine. I'm not going to eat your first-born child. I promise. ninja

I always thought of Christianity as a relationship rather than a religion. I agree more with Christianity being a faith because Christians trust God, and are hopeful in his love for them.

Also, I don't recall God referring to Christianity as religion in the Bible. It says, "Without faith it is impossible to please God." And were not the Religious leaders the ones looked down upon by God? God was obviously not pleased with their rituals and heartless sacrifices as much as a faithful widow giving a penny.

I believe Christianity is a combination of faith and religion. They compliment each other, they go hand in hand. Faith is what helps us to adhere to the guidelines of religion, and religion is a demonstration of faith.

If Christianity were based only on faith, then all one would have to do to receieve the gift of forgiveness is acknowledge the existence of God, his presence and his omnipotence. Yes, we'd all believe, but no one would act upon it. It would be a bunch of people with the same idea, but it would not be acted upon or show itself in practice as well as in the heart. After all, it is our actions as well as our thoughts and feelings and beliefs that count.

However, if Christianity were classified only as a religion, without faith, then a series of motions and the strict adherence to all of the 'rules' would qualify a person as a believer. There would be very little spiritual aspect to it, and the love of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit would be virtually nonexistant.

So you see, in my humble opinion and belief, Christianity could not survive without a balance of faith and religion. One needs the other, one causes the other and sustains it.

Am I making any sense at all? sweatdrop
