One of the biggest debates in the movie world is that of Books turned into Movies.

Lord of the Rings
The Color Purple
Harry Potter
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
The Time Machine
Alice in Wonderland
Freedom Writers
Clan of the Cave Bear
Flowers in the Attic
Mists of Avalon

to name a few off the top of my head. What's your take? What movies based on books did you like? What movies didn't you?

Rule: People are sharing their opinions so no getting agitated over someone elses opinion. It's just not polite thank you.

i find the books usually way better than the movie since they cut out certain main parts.

I agree, most books turned movie are better in the book version, but some aren't so bad I guess...

I usually like the books better. Books are so much more detailed, and I love that. I was so annoyed with Eragon. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie, once I put thoughts of the book out of my head...lol..

Books are generally better. I think the only movies you can consider to be anywhere near the equal of the books is The Lord of the Rings. The Harry Potters on the other hand, you have to view as an entirely seperate entity because they leave so much out.

you have to keep in mind though the mass change in directors for Harry Potter whereas Peter Jackson was there for all of the Lord of the Rings movie. I'm sure this affected it in some way.

Lord of the Rings are probably the best ones out there. They manage to keep a lot in there, plus they put a lot of time and effort into details. If you´ve ever seen the animated version, you know what i´m talking about. It was so edited i couldn´t follow the storyline, and ive read the books.

The problem with movies is that everyone has their own image in their head of what everything looks like, to have it just be one thing that´s not theirs kinda makes people angry.

Books are more personal. People like having stuff catered to them.

Well put mangacat. Lord of the Rings is also very good because of the extended editions. It explained more about the plot and included some of the subplots.

Books are always better in my opinion, I just don't have the time to read alot of them ^^;
The movies aren't that bad since they introduce more people to the books and such. I just wish they'd include more of the book into them.

It does introduce many people to the books but my question is How Many bother to read the book after the movie?

I still hold to my other questions I've seen many books written AFTER the movie. I've only read one or two but I really wonder if these should be considered "better"?

Should it matter which came first?

When I was in high school I couldn't get into LOTR,, just couldn't.. It wasn't until the last couple of years that I could read it and not get bored stiff! It took me 4 months to read 2 chapters of the Hobbitt!
