If you want to understand the anime, just understand it. If you want to understand the manga, just understand the manga. Apparently in the anime, Rena had some program that would eliminate the virus, they flew into it and destroyed the virus. Don't even try to understand the anime, it's stupid and not even canon to the .hack timeline. The manga is the real thing.
ah ok thx. but just out of curiousity, what happened to them irl?
and i know this is out of the question, what happened to the irl kite from the first four games ( i didn't buy the last one so i don't know what happens)?
