Simple question. What kind of art do you like the best? (My knowledge of artist names is limited so you will have to excuse me)
Do you prefer your comics to look more "comic book esque" like the works of Joe Maduira (sp?), Alan Davis, and Mark Bagley?
Or do you prefer them to look realistic like the works of Alex Ross.
State who you like as an artist or what style you like your favorite comic to be drawn in. And.....DISCUSS!

Actually the best art work I have ever seen is from the "Masters of the Universe" series, and the artist's names are Emiliano Santalucia and Enza Fontana. They do some of the most detailed and realistic art that I can remember seeing. I don't know if anyone here is familiar with these two artists but they are extremely talented.
I really prefer realism in the art.

I wouldn't put Joe Mad in that category. sweatdrop For me it really depends on the context. I love Alex Ross' work and I have his hardcover, but I also love Bruce Timm and Darwyn Cooke. My favourite artist is probably Adam Hughes. whee

My favourites right now are Bryan Hitch, John Cassaday and Greg Land. I guess because these guys have that "realistic" looking art because they use photo reference. I know it's not realistic as painted art but I still prefer pencil and ink to painted artwork when it comes to comic books.
I also don't mind a bit of exaggeration when it comes to art. I love Deodato's renditions of Spider-man and Hulk. I just hate exaggeration when it reaches Liefeld proportions

Greg Land penciled the ENTIRE issues of Sojourn, and was one of the main reasons I loved it so much. His art is just darn pretty to look at. His women were beautiful, his men were (drop dead) handsome, and his backgrounds and creatures were spectacular (especially his dragons!)
I greatly miss Sojourn if, for nothing else, his art.

I don't like painted pictures for inside of comics, though they look fabulous on covers. One of my favourite art styles can be seen in Daemonifuge (produced by Games Workshop, but still good), where they basically scan in pencilwork and then colour it on computer with photoshop and even use Bryce on at least one occassion - Gives a mix between realism and older comic styles that I really enjoy. For some reason I can't seem to find any example works right now and my comics have gone missing so I can't scan a sample in...

It's probably intentional.
Gareth is WAY sexy, though.... heart I rarely describe comic art as titiliating in it's portrayal of men...usually they're too ridiculously muscled up and grimacing to be thought of as pinup-style art...but Land's depiction of Gareth is INCREDIBLY handsome.

Well I'm obviously not in a position to judge such things accurately but I would have to agree for the most part. Honestly most comic chicks don't do it for me, alot of it is just plain ridiculous, but Greg gets my approval all around.
