This is now the official starships thread. Effective as of May 10, 2007.
Dante turned this project over to me, so I'm revamping it.

As of May 30, power level has a bearing on ship use.
Sorry, but a Padawan who just started training is not going to own or know how to use a starfighter, let alone a corvette. The exception is someone who already has pilot experience, which Sage notes in your PL.

Ship Classes:
Starfighter - Do I really need to explain this?
+Superiority Fighter - All-purpose fighter. Ex: X-Wing, TIE Fighter, ARC Fighter, Delta-7 Class
+Interceptor - Light ships used to chase down enemy fighters. EX: A-Wing, TIE/In, Eta-2 Actis Class
+Bomber - Heavy armament, heavy armor, slow. Ex: Y-Wing, TIE/sa

Light Freighter/Shuttle - Small-ish ships, usually requiring a minimum crew of 2-5, with room for a few passengers and, for the freighters, about 200 metric tons of cargo. Ex: YT-series, Lambda-class shuttle, Corellian Star Shuttle

Corvette - Smallest true warship, these often serve as troop transports, escorts for larger ships, or blockade runners. Usually a crew of 30-200, with a capacity for many passengers or troops. Can have docking bays fora few fighters. Ex: Corellian CR-90

Frigate - Medium-sized warship, these serve as fire support and in other functions to aid capital ships, with a crew of 800-1200. Smallest class that can carry whole squadrons of fighters. Ex: Banking Clan Munificent-class, Nebulon B Escort Frigate, Lancer Class, Acclamator-class Assault Ship, Vistory II-class

Do I need to post data for larger capital ships?

Light Lasers:
Laser Cannon - Your standard starfighter armament. Good damge with a fast rate of fire. Fixed in one direction.

Twin Laser Cannon Turret - A little heavier. Can be mounted as an auto-turret, fixed in place, or be operated by a gunner.

Quad Laser Cannon Turret - Very powerful, with an excellent rate of fire. Usually mounted on a transport or light freighter and operated by a gunner.

Heavy Lasers:
Heavy Laser Cannon Turret - Usually incorporates two heavy laser cannons, sometimes four. Standard armament on cruisers.

Turbolaser - Extremely heavy and quick firing, Usually mounted on capital ships but corvettes can occasionally sport one or two.

Turbolaser Battery - A massive turret containing two or four turbolasers. The best anti-starship laser available. Only mounted on capital ships.

Light Ballistic Weapons:
Concussion Missile Launcher - Very fast projectiles, effective at chasing down starfighters. Less damage on capital ships than proton torpedoes. Magazine: 3-7

Proton Torpedo Launcher - Thermonuclear projectiles, even somewhat effective against capital ships. Can be outrun by faster starfighters, on occasion. Magazine: 3-7

Proton Bomb Launcher - Heavily damaging projectiles, dropped from below craft. Very effective against capital ships, but worthless on starfighters. Magazine: 4-10

Heavy Ballistic Weapons:
Proton Torpedo Battery - Same as above. Arranged in batteries varying in size.

Proton Bomb Battery - Same as above. Arranged in batteries varyng in size. Often used for planetary bombardment.

Ion Weapons:
Ion Cannon - Starfighter-mounted weapon, either fixed or turreted. Capable of disabling starfighters or parts of larger ships without damaging them.

Heavy Ion Cannon Turret - Same as above, but mounted on cruisers or capital ships and effective against all classes of starships.

Shields:
Only necessary to post on freighters and smaller, as I doubt anyone's going to be blowing up capital ships. Ratings go from 0 SBD (No shields, frees up room and power for other things) to about 100 SBD (Nothing but shields on a fighter, small transports and larger can still carry weaponry) to about 200 SBD (Nothing but shields on a large transport). Starfighters will usually be rated around 50; 25 for most interceptors or 75 for most bombers. 100 for small transports or shuttles.

Hull:
Just like shields, only really necessary for freighters and below. Ratings go from 25 to 200 RU, same system as above. Thererefore, a normal starfighter will have 50 SBD shields + 50 RU hull = 100 total defense. These numbers aren't used for anything, but are nice to quantize the stuff on some level. If you'd like to post your hull material for RP purposes, so much the better.

Also, keep in mind that systems start taking damage once the shielding is down, and the ship does the big firework when the hull dies.

The lack of a shield generator frees up extra room and power for sublight engines and hyperdrive units, which are significantly better than the original N-1's. An unintentional effect of the hull plating is that the entire ship is now a brilliant gold color.

Description:
After finding it hard to acquire transport from Dantooine to Courscant, Eika felt the need for her own ship. After staying up many nights after her mediation hour she was able to put together a schematic of her ship. She and the to be crew worked on it constantly, finishing it just in time for the Jedi strike on dantooine. She continues to upgrade systems on the Karona.

This is the last revison of the Karona. It will be a personal ship but will mainly transport strike teams and supplies in high risk zone.

Description: A strange ship that has been in the hands of the known rogue Cale Darksun for five years, the Aeon Seer's make, while bearing some similarity to Corellian Craft, is a bird all her own. Her homeyard is unknown and it is more than likely that she was the brainchild of some independent shipwright.
Origins aside, the ship boasts a considerable history, having gone through at least a dozen prior owners before Cale aquired her.

Aside from her standard features, Cale has outfited the ship to serve his own purposes. Most of the money he makes from his adventures gets poured into the ship weither it needs it or not.
The Ship sports a low grade sensor baffler, a backup battery, a sensor decoy launcher, and a larger than normal power core. The ship's red paint job was the personal craftsmanship of a former gamorrian pilot, her reasoning behind it being "Da red wunz go fasta."
The vessel also features an integrated AI, a feature brought in also by a prior owner. Formerly a traffic control droid, the AI now thinks of itself as being the ship which is a signifigant step up in the world. It speaks in a calming feminine voice and prefers to be called Aeon.
Lacking the funds to afford a crew, Cale keeps her online to ease ship operations and to keep him company during long space flights. Aeon has a tendancy to spout puzzeling phrases from time to time, which sound akin to prophesies, a factor which may have contrubuted to the ship's name.

Kraken was the brainchild of Dax Raltheron, a pet project he'd been working of for years, in his downtime. Although not the biggest or the most heavily armed light freighter in the galaxy, she has her charms. The sleek freighter has heavily modified sublight engines and enhanced maneuvering systems, allowing it to virtually dance through space, or in atmosphere, as well as an upgraded fire control suite, augmenting the accuracy of her weapon systems. The weapon systems themselves are normally hidden within bays in the ship itself, covered and protected by thick Durasteel bay doors untill manned and deployed.
Dax had spent several years in the design process, treating it as a pet project using everything he learned working the docks and shops on Nar Shadaa. For several years he gathered materials for his dream ship, scavenging armor plating and components where he could. That gathering intensified when he partnered with Ordon, the Zabrak seeing the potential value in the design and its potential for meeting his own ends. Between the two scoundrels, they eventually managed to put together all of the materials and components needed to build the ship. Unfortunately the materials cost them a fortune, and a few misadventures cropped up from a couple of botched attempts at "aquiring" other parts, leaving the two near bankrupt.

This is my design forKraken. From the ground up she's a custom job. And no, the pic's not mine. Pic is copyright AustinZ. Leni: This is what I had in mind for the ship from the start, more or less.

Description: Once a stock Delta-7, Cali stole it from the Jedi Academy when she split from the Order. Since then, it has been repainted with a green and white pattern and upgraded with the addition of stealth equipment and an extra laser cannon. The cockpit is a bit roomier than the non-Jedi Delta-7's, as much of the instrumentation has been removed. Cali's piloting skill in the ship is tuned mostly toward hit-and-run attacks, and she can pilot it expertly at high speeds.

Hello! If anyone else is like me, and a little tired of Dante's dictatorial method of governing starships, I encourage you to post here, especially if you'd like to include the design of your ship in actual SW technology, not something like a "minor plasma torpedo launcher."

That makes a hell of alot more sense than what the heck the system was before.
I like my normal Star Wars tech.
Its what Ive always RP'ed with.

Just thought I'd bring this up....Are you sure that particular base-ship was in production in this timeline? I don't know, myself, but it might be worth looking in to.

Just thought I'd bring this up....Are you sure that particular base-ship was in production in this timeline? I don't know, myself, but it might be worth looking in to.

Well, we're moving back weapons from the clone wars, and this was in service a good while before that, so I'd say it's reasonable. If anyone objects, let me know.

maybe scale it from 1 to 10 with fighters being able to take levels 1 to 3 items, etc. This would be useful in telling how powerful a ship is and how much damage it could take.

Fighters:1-3
medium ships(crusiers, transports, freighters):1-6

Super class ships(like the super star destroyer, Mon calimari Viscount):3-9
Super weapons (death starish stuff):2-10

Ive RP'ed in star wars for quite some time.
If a group of fighters or anything corvette sized and up with military transpoder codes comes at me, I run.

Same, i even rp'ed the paper SWRPG. I posted it as a idea for people who haven't. And the idea parallels the power lvl's.
