Haha. I would help you, but I have absolutly no clue on how I would make those!
But, if anyone just has no idea where to start, and their costume is all soft materials, send me a PM with refference pictures! I should be able to give a bit of help, Like on what type of patterns to look for, then how to render them to fit your need, that sort of thing. :] But I can't visualize details unless I'm acctuly making the thing. and I'm no good with hard materials(ex. wonderflex, paper mache, ect.) :[ But I'll try my best to help out!

When you've finished the sora costume, don't try and sew together strips of blue into the fabric- it'll take way too long. Try drawing the ridges with fabric pen or chalk [ both will wash out ] and then fill it in with glow-in-the-dark blue paint.

I don't need as much help as other people, but since it's around I was wondering some things. First, I'm going as Naota from FLCL on friday, I think. I really want the costume to be pretty exact. I need his backpack and shoes. the backpack isn't as big a deal. but I want his shoes. I have NO idea how I'm going to pull them off, as they like.. don't exist in real life. Damn. http://greatanime1.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/.pond/flcl.jpg.w300h449.jpghttp://www.uoregon.edu/~jmeyer/naota_and_mamimi_1280x1024.jpg the second picture is big. ^^; but those show the shoes pretty well. damn me and being a perfectionist. next up, I'm going as Conan from Case Closed (one of my favorite animes ever!) I'm going to make his outfit by hand. The first thing I'm wondering about is how to make the jacket. I don't know what sort of jacket I'd even be looking for. I can't find anything with one button. Yes, I can just put one button on it, but it's the way it's held together by that one button that confuses me. Is anyone good with costumes who could help me figure out what I'm doing ^^;? I've never been very good with clothes.. a tunic for my costume last year was hard enough.. lol. If anyone could help me at all, let me know. I'm mostly concerned with Conan's costume. I can wing it with Naota's shoes if I have to. I'm just being nit-picky while I still have time to be lol!

For props, I think if you're patient enough you can make most props out of cardboard and hotglue, maybe a strip of wood to keep the guitar straight, since it's longer. There's an article on how to make props on Anime News Network, I'm trying to dig it up now...
And Meph! *pokes* (guess who this is blaugh ) Maybe you can buy gray shoes and use fabric paint to paint on an orange stripe.

I found it!

I read this thread a while ago, and while I don't remember everything, I do remember that this guy had some pretty good tips.

Calica What's a good method for making gloves? Do they make patterns for that?
For normal ballgown gloves...? Like, basically just a slip-on glove.
Just trace your hand CAREFULLY with your fingers spread out. Trace the new piece onto another piece of fabric, but make it a bit thicker. sew it together inside out like you normally would, then flip it rightside out. That's how I made KOS-MOS gloves for a friend. :3 [ KOS-MOS from episode 2 ]
