It's mainly confusing because they aren't really in dictionaries, or even on dictionaries and search engines they do have definitions of them, or at least some.
Find the meaning of word because these are two letter words. This works for every phrase except for Ancient Rome. I won't do every word for you but I will give you some examples:
force of fate: What is a force? Strength or power exerted on an object. We can take out exerted on an object because that relates to Physics and we are not talking about that. What is fate? something that unavoidably befalls a person; something that is inevitably predetermined; destiny. So put 2 and 2. It pretty much means that you can't beat your history or destiny.
