The Power Scale
As we've been RPing, (and somewhat before) I made a character sheet for Grim in the Star Wars d20 style. why would I do this? well, it makes things easier...it allows me to determine just how strong my character would be when compared to another...so if anyone else wants to join in on this, PM me your msn, and I'll send ya a pdf for the core rule book, and the faction of your choice (if your jedi, you get jedi book, sith get sith, no you can't get both unless I'm feeling nice.)
It would also be a whole helluva lot easier to determine how much cash specific characters could throw around, and how certain skills work (like Alchemy).
If you do want to go with this, suggested levels are as follows:
padawan/apprentice level 3 to 6 jedi knight: level 7 to 10 Master: 11 to 14 Council: 15 to 18 Grandmaster: 18-20 Acolyte: 7 - 10 Lord: 11 to 14 Council: 15 or 16 Dark Lord: 18 to 20
The ranges are for comparison purposes. Example: Verin just now attained jedi knight rank..he would be level 7 since he's new to it. Mri would be around level 8 or 9, since she started as a jedi knight rank character. Z, being the dark lord, would be around level 19, or 20. Lonus, being grandmaster, would be level 20.
Edit, by Sage, keeper of the power level system:
Effective immediately (9:28 pm eastern standard time on April 21, 2007) All profiles will be limited in power level by character age. We have more than enough prodigies as it is. This is not going to be retro active, however all profiles henceforth should follow the guidelines. There will be no more Jedi Knights under the age of 20. Why? it's not star wars realistic. Even the youngest knight was age 19, maybe. This will also serve as a way to figure out how strong your character can get at their current age. There may be exceptions, but don't expect them.
under 12- level 1 limit. EVER. NO EXCEPTIONS. 13 to 14 level 2...MAYBE. 15-16 level 2ish 17 to 18 level 3ish 19: 4 or 5 20 6...maybe 7. jedi knight minimum age for humans. if the race has a shorter life span than normal humans, then the age is similarly lowered.
21- 25: 6 to 8 26-30: 7-13 30-40: 14-15 41-60: 15...maybe higher. Most jedi never even make it to power level 15 anyway. Qui Gon Jinn was power level 15...granted, he got killed by maul due to lack of an area to move around in, and because he was never a master of combat.
Also note: this means that I will be giving people 1's. In addition, if you state in your bio that your character JUST joined the jedi order, they aren't going to start above a 2, at best. This isn't to be mean. It's to be at least semi realistic. Luke wasn't rank 10 when he got one day of training from obi wan, hell, luke didn't even get past rank 7 in the entire trilogy.
-------------------------
Subordinate: 1-3 Soldier: 4-9 Captain: 10-15 Mandalore: requires defeating previous mandalore in combat, armed, unarmed, or otherwise. This means that mandalore can be anywhere from rank 1, to rank 20, they just have to beat the previous one in ritual combat.
Since Mandalorians are not force sensitive they go by a slightly different power scale. They have to rely on non force skills significantly more than jedi do, and their aim is extremely important. As well, they wear armor, something most jedi simply can't pull off due to lack of training in wearing it properly. Mando's are proficient in all weapons except lightsaber, they can wear any armor they want, and they can fly any kind of ship. In addition:
Mando's are able to fly ships are 3 levels above their rank. They can fire blaster rifles at 1 level above their rank, and they can fight unarmed at one level above their rank. They can resist force powers at 2 levels below their rank. Meaning a padawan still can't throw a rank 10 mando around like a rag doll. any mando above rank 6 cannot be affected by 'affect mind' and any mando above rank 13 cannot be affected by any sort of mind control or mental influence (force based...they're still affected by drugs.)
If your wondering why they seem powerful, it's because they don't have the force to rely on. When doing blaster vs lightsaber combat, consider a mando to be on equal ground against someone of their rank. You've seen what jango did to some of the knights on Genosis, that was because he was rank 12....mace beat him because mace was rank 18....and a saber master.
If someone starts off force sensitive, but without jedi training, they are limited to a rank of 1 in force skills, but only limited by RP in thier rank of non force skills. If someone gets more ranks in force skills than non force, they stop tracking power level separately and start tracking based on force skills. They retain the ability to wear armor and use non jedi weapons. example:
Billy has a rank 5 mando, he manages to RP his way into being a rank 6 jedi. He drops the mando rank, and only shows the following: rank 6 jedi, armor proficiency, Weapons proficiency, ship proficiency, piloting rank 8.
When he gets to rank 8 jedi, he becomes: Rank 8 jedi, Armor prof, Weapon prof, Ship prof.
Edit: even if you start as a force sensitive, you have to have a VERY GOOD reason to have ANY powers. In other words, you have to have a really good bio, worthy of rank ten or higher, to warrant having any force powers without being a jedi or sith. Even then, you'll be limited to force rank of 1, and apprentice level powers.
Sage notes one last thing: I'm going to let xian use rank 1 force powers. It's mostly a test. And because most people don't bother making nonjedi of rank 10 or over. If he can pull off playing a force user, then I'm going to be more lenient about non jedi and non sith. That's just me though...the other mods might (and probably do) have differing opinions. It would still be fully up to the lot of us as a group. or just basch.

sage notes: I didn't actually assign a power level yet. sorry if the power level thread was confusing about that. the numbers there for age are maximums, not guarantees.
