That happened? Where and When? Was it in the manga? Cause I only watched the anime and I'm pretty sure that this never happened in the anime.

Some people drown without dying. But I know what you're saying, it does sound a little farfetched. And it usually would require someone saving them.

I think drownded means anyone who first fell in the uncursed spring..
dying or not doesn't matter..

One can in fact drown without actually dying. Well in a way they do die, but CPR revives them. Technically though at that point the body is dead as it showing no vital signs. SO yes Akane was drowned in a spring that had no curse. Kiima actually had the spring dug for that purpose so she could fool Ranma and friends.
To learn more you need to read the final two volumes of the manga, as together they make the final story arc so it would be weired to read only part of them.
