NAME Piraya (Peer-rye-ah) Baradel GENDER Female AGE 31 (physically) / 46 (chronologically) RACE Ejderha HOMETOWN Liram OCCUPATION Head of Melee Weaponry Division of The Asterion League, Former Aluf Mishne in the Ejderha military APPEARANCEWhen Piraya enters a room, it's hard to not take notice. Be it her roughly 6 feet in height or her wavy bone white hair combined with golden eyes, she undoubtedly has a very striking appearance, even by Ejderha standards. Of course, as an Ejderha there's more oddities to her appearance than just funny colored hair. Beyond scalloped ears and slitted pupil eyes, Piraya has golden draconic wings and a triad of thin straight golden horns tucked near each ear. Piraya's facial structure is filled with soft angles and a diamond stud adorns her left nostril to signify her status as a married Ejderha woman. Also of note is that her lower left cheek is marred with a scar received by an enemy blade during the Battle of Nasaja. In terms of build, Piraya looks akin to an Amazon with a well toned curvaceous build. ( REFERENCE) ( REFERENCE) ( REFERENCE) ( REFERENCE) PERSONALITYOn the surface, Piraya is a warm and approachable woman. She's quick to smile and seems to always have an encouraging word to pass out, particularly for the League's newest recruits be they in her charge or not. Possessing a poised, confident air, Piraya naturally commands attention when she is present and she steers her way through conversations with the ease of a upper class socialite, not a veteran soldier. Really, the first impression of Piraya likely makes it hard to believe that she's ever held a weapon in her life, let alone that she's deadly with one - she just comes off too.. nice. However, as people spend more time around her, they will come to recognize that for all the pretty smiles and flattery, there is a tough as nails woman lurking beneath the surface. Piraya is a shrewd businesswoman and diplomat who knows better than to take anything at face value and she has a tendency to constantly assess and reassess anything that passes under her notice. Don't mistake her sociable nature for airheadedness - within Piraya's mind she has carefully filed away every little detail relevant to her position within the League, from battle strengths and weaknesses to petty disagreements. As a highly analytical woman and former military commander, Piraya frequently comes to believe that she knows how to best deal with a situation and will often act on an important matter without consulting with others. Though this generally results in butting heads with those not consulted, Piraya remains unapologetic about her nature. Piraya is neither law-abiding nor an idealist. Though she typically follows rules out of politeness, she has no qualms tossing them out of the window if she feels they're getting in the way. As an Ejderha, she has been raised in a culture that follows the motto of 'the ends justify the means' and Piraya is no exception. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty and will do what needs to be done, as unpleasant as it may be. That said, this statement should not be stretched to apply to every situation blanketly - Piraya assesses every situation carefully and she certainly isn't going to sell out her loved ones, etc. Judgment calls often come down to pure gut instincts and she is not the sort to forget a past favor. Despite Piraya's self-assured 'I know best' M.O., she has a very difficult time dealing with failure. Though intellectually she knows it is best to simply brush it off and continue on, she instead finds herself magnifying the situation and dwelling on it. If left unchecked, this can spiral into heavy drinking, depression and avoidance of others, though this is less likely now that she has a stable homelife. Though much of the above casts Piraya in a very negative light, in most situations she is playful and friendly. She's well-spoken and even tempered and her guidance of the Melee Weaponry division is firm, yet kind. Still, there is much more than meets the eye and most older members of the League are not fool enough to underestimate her.

Piraya Baradel was born simply Piraya in the city of Liram on the Ejderha nation of Filela-Liram. One would expect that any pregnancy would be considered a blessing among the Ejderha, but for young unwed Merihmah, it was far from that. She found herself raising a small child by herself, as her own parents had both fallen to illness in years prior. As for the father, when Piraya was very young, her mother used to tell her that her father was a very important man in the military, and as a result, the young girl romanticized the military at an early age. The truth, however, was that her father was a luckless sailor who had merely been looking for a good way to pass his time while he tried to find himself work. Long before Merihmah discovered her pregnancy, he had abruptly left without a good bye.
Trying to make ends meet as well as raise a child alone was not an easy task for Merihmah, and Piraya's childhood memories consist primarily of frequently moving between cheap housing and her mother's seeming inability to hold down a steady job. Despite this, Mehrimah was determined to provide everything she could for her daughter even though Piraya's wardrobe almost always consisted of clothing she had long outgrown. Though no single event sticks out, Piraya's childhood can easily be summarized as hard times that left her as a toughened woman.
Long before she was of age, Piraya (like so many Ejderha) had taken interest in the military arts and her entrance into the military at the required twenty-two years of age couldn't happen fast enough. Though only required to serve for three years, Piraya chose to make the military her career and found it very easy to take to the lifestyle. The frequent location reassignments in particular were no trouble as it had become her nature to not become emotionally attached to anything or anyone but her mother. (Her comrades often noted that while she was very nice to talk to, she didn't actually have any close friends.)
Piraya was not part of the military coup that placed Ceydon, the current Ejderha leader, in power -- in fact, she was stationed no where near Filela at the time. The change in power was somewhat troubling to her at the time, but as the chaos of regime change settled down, Piraya found that her position in life had made little change as she was of no concern to the newly-in-charge. In the years that followed, she made her way through the ranks, attaining the title of Aluf Mishne, placing her just below senior military personnel.
As an Aluf Mishne in the years prior to the major human invasion, Piraya was placed in charge of commanding other soldiers along the border of Filela-Liram and occasionally engaging in skirmishes with humans crossed onto Ejderha soil for ill reasons. Battle, however, was typically a rarity and she acted far more as a keeper of the peace than a battle commander. This, however, all changed when an army from Cerastes crossed the Sea of Adhara and landed on the coast of Filela-Liram.
Piraya's skills on the battle field were truly put to the test in that first year of combat. Fighting hard along the coast, Piraya and her troops held off the human advance but made little headway in terms of causing a human withdrawl. It was during these early skirmishes that Piraya's path crossed with Cleph's for the first time. Following a particularly heated battle, Piraya got word that a human healer had taken in one of her top soldiers who had been wounded. Though reticent with her enemy, she was left impressed with his actions and gruffly thanked him before reclaiming her soldier.
The event was of little significance to her at the time. She certainly hadn't been swayed in her opinions towards humans, which, at the time, were logically not very favorable. She also certainly wasn't expecting to meet him again, this time on the battlefield. Had her recognition of him taken a few seconds longer, things may have turned out entirely differently. As it was, against everything she had been taught as an Ejderha, she stopped just short of attacking the healer and instead told him to get the hell out of there. If anyone saw that she had allowed him to pass unscathed, they thankfully kept it to themselves.
Piraya's military career ended at the bloody Battle of Nasaja. In charge of protecting the city from being captured from humans, Piraya failed miserably in her task and many of the soldiers under her as well as innocents were severely injured or killed. The city fell in a massive military blunder and the Ejderha retreated, being completely overpowered by their human adversaries. While the humans claimed a glorious victory and renamed the city to Sovya, Piraya was disgracefully dismissed from the military and generally ostracized by the Ejderha as a result.
With little skill to support herself except as a fighter, Piraya was not out in the world for long before she came across a flier for the Asterion League and decided to pursue the life of a soldier of fortune. Though she was accepted into the ranks, in her first year she seemed far more interested in getting to know the tavernmaster than making a decent living for herself. Dwelling over an event she blame solely on herself, Piraya was highly unapproachable and rarely interacted with her fellow guildmates.
As it would turn out, the same human healer she had spared some years ago was a member of the League, in fact, he was one of the leaders. Cleph and Piraya formed a strange bond that eventually turned into romance and a marriage. At the same time, Piraya cast aside the shell she had built around herself and quickly reemerged as the strong, confident leader she once was. Within the past six months, the former Melee Weaponry Division Head, a human man named Laico Siegmyrth, retired and Piraya, a relative newcomer within the guild, was appointed his successor. Unsurprisingly this has caused some degree of dissent within the ranks as many believe that she was only selected due to who she is sleeping with.
COMMON KNOWLEDGE It is well-known within the Asterion League that Piraya arrived roughly five years ago and spent far more time drinking than she did slaying nasty beasties. Where she came from prior to that is unknown and she has only shared this information with close confidantes, but it is logical to assume that she is from Filela-Liram at some point. (If your character is an Ejderha/was involved with the Battle of Nasaja and you would like to recognize Piraya, just PM me and we'll work something out!) More recently she engaged in a seemingly whirlwind romance with guild leader Cleph Baradel that resulted in what many say is an inevitably doomed marriage. Roughly six months ago she was chosen to become a guild leader herself, which has resulted in some hard feelings and nasty rumours regarding the reasons for her appointment.

DIVISION Melee Weaponry CLASS PROGRESSION Squire > Lancer > Dragoon SQUIRE Piraya began her days in the Ejderha military as a lowly Squire. As a young Squire, she was only beginning to learn how to properly handle her weapon of choice, the spear. She was also schooled in the fundamentals of hand-to-hand combat as well as taught the advantages of a well-aimed rock throw. At this stage, Piraya's spear never left her hands.
Melee +5, Ranged +0, Magic/Other +0 HP >> 43, Evade >> 12
LANCER To become a Lancer, Piraya had to prove herself capable of wielding a spear competently. Though primarily using the spear for close-range techniques such as stabs and spins, at this stage she began to train in spear throws as well.
Melee +8, Ranged +2, Magic/Other +0 HP >> 53, Evade >> 16
DRAGOON Piraya became a Dragoon while still serving in the Ejderha military. At this final stage, she has improved on all her previous techniques as well as added a few new fancy moves. The signature attack of the Dragoon is the jump attack which Piraya performs by jumping high into the air and throwing her spear down onto her enemy while mid-air. As an Ejderha Dragoon, she has additionally trained her breath ability to be combat worthy and the amount of flame produced is roughly on par with circus fire-breathers.
Melee +9, Ranged +4, Magic/Other +2 HP >> 63, Evade >> 20 SPECIAL SKILLSLevel 1: ???
Level 2: Attack Multiple Targets When performing a spin attack, Piraya can attack multiple enemies for a -2 penalty to her total per additional enemy targeted.
Level 3: Jump Attack When performing a jump attack, Piraya's total is her roll+melee+ranged, however this attack can only be performed twice per battle and not consecutively. Her success total is determined using her roll+ranged.
Narrative Skill: High Jump As a Dragoon, Piraya has trained herself to be able to jump much further than a regular human (or Ejderha). This is done in part by utilizing her wings to help propel herself further. She can launch herself ~10ft high. WEAPON Spear LEVEL 3 POINT ASSIGNMENT Melee (9), Ranged (4), Magic (2) HIT POINTS 63 EVADE 20 OTHER NOTES Piraya has a +3 bonus to HP due to being an Ejderha.

FAQ What the heck is an Aluf Mishne? An Aluf Mishne is one of the rank titles for members of the Ejderha army. An Aluf Mishne is a commanding officer in charge of a city garrison and generally tasked with protecting a city, thus an Aluf Mishne often performs a dual role of military commander and chief of city 'police'. Aluf Mishne (a city commander) report to a Tat Aluf (a subregional commander) who then reports to an Aluf (a regional commander). Alufs report directly to the ruler of the Ejderha, Ceyden.
