 name: Sisel Chaikin gender: female age: 20-something (APPARENT); 155 (ACTUAL) race: Duszek hometown: Heym, The Great Oasis occupation: Head of Offensive Magic Division at The Asterion League.
appearance: Hair: Sisel has a great deal of plank-straight pale blonde hair, a trait typical to the Duszek, which she wears in a rather intricate style. When worn down, Sisel’s hair falls to the middle of her back, but hair down-ness is not a state which she frequently occupies, and so most people don’t know her hair’s actual length. Sisel’s bangs are cut a-symmetrically, so that the right side falls to the chin, rather than to the eyebrow. On the right side, the rest of Sisel’s hair is wrapped into a braided bun with a few wispy strands escaping. The right side is pulled into a rather fancy-looking strip of hair that is surrounded by braids. On this side, too, wisps of hair escape.
Face: (REFERENCE) Sisel has the appearance of someone who does not get enough sleep. The skin around her pale gray-blue eyes is a slightly darker, grayer blue than the rest of her face. Her features are sharper and slightly more delicate than the features of a human.
Build: At 6’0, Sisel is on the smaller end of average for a female Duszek. She’s thin in a “Hmm, you should probably eat a sandwich” kind of way, and has a slouching posture that makes her seem shorter than she really is. The fact that Sisel spends more time reading and researching than she does eating, sleeping, exercising or going out into the sunlight is strongly apparent by her extremely light blue skin.
Clothing: (REFERENCE IMAGE) A robe of purple, gray and white.
personality: Sisel Chaikin has been head of the offensive magic division for years now, and not without good reason. Members of the Asterion League see the most elusive of the guild leaders as tenacious, dedicated and extremely talented: certainly a worthy role model. For the most part, Sisel is unaware of public opinion – probably because she’s completely anti-social. One of the primary reasons for Sisel’s reputation is that very few people get to know her on a personal level. The result is that most people assume that Sisel’s business face is her only face; this is almost entirely untrue.
While it is true that Sisel can be tenacious and extremely talented, these traits do not apply to all endeavors. In fact, Sisel tends to be quite bumbling and untalented when trying things out for the first time, and it is only by virtue of her dedication that she develops any skill at all. Although it’s her job to make lots of important decisions, Sisel tends to be rather waffley; she’s also inwardly very panicky and is hesitant to try out new things out of fear that she may fail and disappoint her loved ones. Guilt and fear of disappointment are the things that drive her – Sisel relies heavily on outside sources to motivate her.
Another little known trait is that Sisel is a complete doofus when it comes to social situations. Not only is she shy, but she’s also horrible at remembering names and dates. Because of this, Sisel is seen as cold, withdrawn and rather reluctant to make friends; for the most part, though, she’s just a big dork.

{ SPIFFY BANNER HERE: HISTORY}
In Heym, the capitol city of the Duszek nation, two scholars of the Tower of Knowledge fell very deeply in love. They were married and with child within months of acknowledging their feelings for each other – a whirlwind romance, some might gossip – but their bond is still strong over a hundred years later. Their first and only child was named Sisel, because she embodied the characteristics of the father’s great grandmother and it was thought that she could’ve possibly been grandma Sisel reborn.
Sisel was raised by everyone but her parents, a fact which shaped who she is today. All she wanted growing up was to have the attention of her eternally busy mother and father but it was the one thing she couldn’t get. So, Sisel poured herself entirely into her studies. She was clever enough to realize that excelling in academics was the best way to grab the attention of mom and dad, and through diligence was able to distinguish herself from her peers when she first began schooling.
Her achievements in academia continued, but there was a definite and very obvious dip in social and physical activity; as early as eight (20s chronologically), Sisel was hiding in libraries reading as many books as she could. By fifteen (~50-60 chronologically), she had been hired on as an apprentice within the Tower of Knowledge – something typically reserved for those who had reached full maturity.
By seventeen, Sisel had established herself as a prominent cabalist in the Tower of Knowledge. Her talents had finally earned her the attention of her parents, but she did not receive the reaction she had hoped for. Sisel’s accomplishments had set her apart from many of her predecessors and it was decided that she would be able to flex her mental muscle best if she were sent out into the field.
Once again Sisel found herself in a situation normally reserved for much older Duszek. She joined a group of eight other scholars and five soldiers and left Heym, headed first for Sasanka where she did a considerable amount of research on the beliefs of the humans and Penneir of the Furud desert. From there she went to Aschere, where she stopped only briefly before going to Sovya and then Cerastes. At Cerastes, the Duszek group split in two and she, with three Duszek soldiers and three scholars, moved West toward { Lamia Territory } and then { Pennierland }.
At the human equivalent of 20 years old, Sisel returned again to Aschere – the city that had, originally, been only a midpoint between two destinations – to finish off her studies; she separated from the rest of the Duszek in her traveling group when she arrived at the port city and made her home in a small cottage near the Asterion League’s property, although admittedly, most of her time was spent at the library. It was here that she met Ottavia.
Sisel was very unreceptive at first – not an unusual reaction from the socially inept cabalist – but the stubborn human soon got Sisel talking and the two became close friends. It was actually because of Ottavia that Sisel joined the Asterion League. True to her normal social habits, Sisel was sparse around the guild at first, but was eventually pulled further in by Ottavia, who, at the time, was the head of the ranged division. Their friendship was sketchy, to say the least, and there was a load of gossip floating around that Sisel found herself having a great deal of trouble handling. She coped by doing what she always did – pouring herself into work and ignoring everyone around her. This time, though, Sisel’s work was more than just researching theologies and biological concepts: she had to go out into the field and do battle. Sisel was now distinguishing herself within the guild just as she had done in Heym in the Tower of Knowledge.
Despite pestering from guildmates, Sisel’s friendship with Ottavia, now in her fifties, remained very strong. The stubborn division leader’s convictions had not weakened over the years, and against the wishes of her fellow division leaders (all of whom were younger than Ottavia), decided that she would personally take care of a mark that had been giving lower ranking League members a great deal of trouble.
Ottavia won. Barely. She returned with a rather extreme injury and days later died very suddenly of infection. Unaccustomed to death, Sisel coped the only way she knew how, by withdrawing almost entirely and devoting more time than she actually had to doing research and helping with the guild. The work may not have helped Sisel to really get over the loss of her first true friend, but it did help her to graduate up to the position of Arch Lich and earned her a leadership position in the Asterion League.
For roughly fifteen years, Sisel has been head of offensive magic in the Asterion League. She’s seen the most members come and go of any of the current leaders, and has been relatively reluctant to really open up to anyone – although she does seem to have developed at least some sort of friendship with the other current guild leaders. Most don’t remember Ottavia, and so the questionable friendship Sisel had is all but forgotten by most (unless you’re Cleph Baradel). What she is known for is her intense dedication to the guild and amazing talent in her magical field.
common knowledge: Sisel Chaikin joined the Asterion League between twenty-five and thirty years ago. It's hard to put an exact date on her joining, because at first she was rather sparse around the hall. Veteran members (of 20 - 15 years) will probably remember her friendship with Ottavia - rumors were floating that their relationship was something more. Roughly ten years ago, Sisel was promoted to the head of the Offensive Magic division and since then, that is what she has become primarily known for - that and her strange personality: it's hard to tell if she's just really socially awkward or really cold.

{ SPIFFY BANNER HERE: JOB CLASS }
class progression: cabalist > necromancer > Arch Lich
CABALIST A cabalist is a scholar who is well versed in obscure or esoteric matters. Their studies may or may not eventually lead them into the realm of magic, but this early in their scholarly career, it's safe to say that they haven't had much experience with the mystical arts quite yet. As a general rule, your typical elementalist is not a cabalist; to be a cabalist, one must devote herself to a field that is more difficult to grasp than the broader categories of black and white magic. Sisel, as a cabalist, was a poor fighter in all respects and preferred the safety and seclusion of a library to the action and glory of the battlefield. For Sisel, this realm of the occult was entirely limited to the concepts of life and death. As a student at the Tower of Wisdom in Heym, Sisel donned a simple, unremarkable gray robe and wore her pale blonde hair in a rather messy blonde bun on the back of her head. If Sisel were to have seen any combat during this time, which she didn't, her weapon would have probably been a book. If Sisel were to have seen any combat during this time, she wouldn't have lasted more than a few seconds.

NECROMANCER The necromancer is a fearsome and formidable mage whose magical talents carry, for most races, a great social stigma. Raising and commanding the dead is seen by most races as heresy, but for the Duszek a corpse is seen as an empty husk - at death, the spirit leaves Aludra and what is left is a shell - and so necromancy is not seen as harming the deceased. However, sometimes, the actions a necromancer takes can be seen as disrespectful to the dearly departed, and in Duszek society, rudeness is one of the highest crimes a person can commit. Because of the lack of negative drawback for her people, Sisel has never felt as though she has been doing something evil or wrong. Sisel's necromantic magic involves the sacrifice of life force to attack the foe, because of this, she enjoy the position farthest from the heat of battle. At the same time, though, she also possess magic that can sap the life from a foe, or inflict decay upon them with no negative effects against her. Sisel's graduation from student and cabalist to trained necromancer drew the attention of many people; most important among them being her parents and the Head Sage. At what would be the human equivalent of seventeen, Sisel was sent out into the world with a group of other scholars. As a necromancer, Sisel donned heavier gray robes and brandished a scythe - more for show than for function, she still can't use the thing and she's had it for years. It was as a necromancer that Sisel joined the Asterion League.
MELEE (1); RANGED (0) MAGIC (8 ) HP ( 35 ), EVADE ( 14 )
ARCH LICH After a human lifetime of studying life and death, Sisel had mastered the art of necromancy and could officially be considered an Arch Lich. Although the name means "High Corpse", Sisel in no way resembles a cadaver or even the traditional image of a necromancer. Although she isn't running around in flowing black robes, sneering and scowling, Sisel still manages to strike fear into the hearts of those around her purely because she is an Arch Lich. This is most fortuitous for Sisel, because even after progressing through the ranks, she still can't wield a weapon effectively. Her magical power, on the other hand, is quite intense; what was, as a necromancer, potentially dangerous and difficult to control is now, for the arch lich, second nature. No longer does Sisel live in fear of using up too much of her own life force, because has mastered control of how much she releases and how much she steals from others. The title of Arch Lich still carries the stigma of the necromancer, it's just that, with so much raw power, people are less likely to voice an opinion against you or whatever you're doing. For a dedicated scholar like Sisel, the progression from cabalist to Arch Lich was pretty much a given: it was easy to tell that she was going places. Sisel became Arch Lich after the death of Ottavia, when she poured herself even further into her work (if that were even possible). It was at this stage that Sisel became leader of the offensive magic division and it is this stage that she currently occupies.
MELEE (3); RANGED (0); MAGIC (12) HP ( 40 ), EVADE ( 18 )
skills:
(LVL 3) Lifetap - Taking evade into account, Sisel does damage to her target, and receives 1/2 of the damage done back in HP. Can be used twice per battle. Decimals rounded down.
(LVL 2) Summon Minion (Summon Shield) - Sisel may summon a zombie to act as a bodyguard of sorts. This creature adds a +5/+10/+15 HP bonus to her stats depending on job level. If she loses HP in an amount equal to the bonus provided, the shield is destroyed and may not be resummoned during the battle. In narrative, while the zombie is up, it fights for her using d20 + melee.
(LVL 3) Lifeblast (Last Resort) - (Using the magic stat) Sisel consumes a great deal of her own life to do damage to her target. The damage inflicted, if the attack is successful, is multiplied by two; Sisel receives the same damage. This ability can only be used after the fourth round of battle.
(RACIAL TRAIT) Magical Resistance - Sisel receives an innate bonus against any magic/other based attacks sent her way. d20+magic/other damage received is reduced by -2/-4/-6 at levels 1, 2, & 3.
(NARRATIVE [racial] SKILL) Honed Senses - As a Duszek, and one raised in Duszecy society, Sisel has finely tuned senses of smell, hearing and sight including the ability to see extremely well in dim light and fairly well in darkness.
(NARRATIVE SKILL) Chemical Bartender - With recipe book in hand, Sisel is an adept apothecary. She owns and operates the only potion store in Aschere out of her own home on the edge of the Asterion League's property. While she's pitiful when it comes to putting together on-the-spot potions as a chemist would, Sisel really knows her way around the lab and can make most complex potions.
(NARRATIVE SKILL) Stench of the Grave - Sisel is able to conjure up a great deal of dark, gray-green smoke that smells absolutely repulsive. Because her own Duszek senses are so sharp, she is reluctant to use this ability because it would do more harm to her than it would to most other people.
(NARRATIVE SKILL) Casting Style - The magic harnessed by Sisel is dark and ominous. Her casting movements are rigid, and her attacks appear in the form of glowing dark-purple energy that streaks and pulses - much like the light from a black light. When Sisel is casting her skills, because she is drawing up so much magical energy, around her feet and legs she puts off a dark purple smoke as she is casting.

{ AWESOME BANNER HERE: RELATIONS }
Auguste Renoir He makes all the girls swoon, but Sisel totally thinks swooning is a frivolous activity. neutral Really. neutral
Cleph Baradel Cleph and Sisel have an odd sort of friendship; outwardly the only thing the two have in common is that they're both very cranky. This seems to work out and they appear to get along. Having both been leaders and guildmates for the longest time may also play a part in the fact that they get along.
Piraya Baradel For all intents and purposes, Piraya and Sisel seem to get along swimmingly. They're not especially friendly - they never seem to spend more time together than what's absolutely necessary - but they've never been known to really butt heads. Truth be told, neither one is very eager to get to know the other. Piraya is bothered by Sisel's gushy inability to make a decision without being forced into it, and Sisel takes great issue with Piraya's hardheadedness.

{ AWESOME BANNER HERE: POSSESSIONS }
Sad Plant - Sisel keeps a sad-looking plant that she insists is healthy, despite the fact that it looks to be in a perpetually wilted state. She does water it regularly, and has been caught speaking to it on more than one occassion. The plant sits in a medium-sized wooden pot and consists of a bunch of long, yellowish green leaves - like the leaves of a tulip - every so often it will bloom gray-white "flowers" that look like extra fluffy dandelion puffs.
