Well, I've been scouting out some nice professional, open hole, pure silver flutes to upgrade too. I love eBay, so I've found a few there. Thus, my four favorite flutes:

1. Gemeinhardt #1

2. Yamaha

3 Gemeinhardt #2

4. Pearl

Now, I haven't ever played a Gemeinhardt or Pearl before - but they do seem to be what I'm looking for. If you could, please help me pick one of the four you think is best. Since I'm buying off of eBay, I don't know what I'm getting into when I buy something. If you can get a link of another flute that is really good (open hole, pure silver, and great condition is really what I'm looking for) and dependable, please post it!!!! I don't mind the price at all, I'm just looking for something really....perfect for these next few years - ^.^

Thanks,
MissMetallica

I think that any of them would be great flutes, but I would like to alert you to the fact that the third is only a step-up, not professional. Just don't want you to be disappointed!

Gemeinhardt flutes are ******** awsome!!! sorry about the language sweatdrop But I have played a selmer, Armstong, off brands, and a Gemeinhardt. The Prelude by Conn Selmer that I have is okay, but trust me when I tell you, Gemeinhardts are REALLY good. I fell in love with my friends. When I get a job, that is the first thing I am buying. And after, I want a pic. too.

Well what would be a really good flute?

Thanks for pointing that out - I'd like to make sure I get something nice if I'm going to buy something this important....

What's the highest price you are willing to pay? Will this flute just be for the next few years, or a flute you plan on having a very long time? And do you plan on possibly playing professionally?

If you plan on playing professionally and keeping this flute for quite a while, than in my opinion I would go with a better flute than the ones listed. Such as a Miyazawa, Jack Moore, Muramatsu, Powell, Haynes, Sonare...or something along those lines. Though those flutes on ebay do look nice.....it just depend on how far you plan to go on the flute.

I plan on playing professionally and can spend thousands on a nice flute. i'd just like something that I can use that is top notch. I saw a Muramatsu on ebay, but I hadn't heard of it before - so I assumed it was another cheap imitation of a professional flute...there are quite a few crappy ones on ebay -

There are a lot of crappy flutes on ebay, so just watch out for them.
That Muramatsu looks nice. 3nodding
Muramatsu, Miyazawa, and Sonare are professional models coming from Japan, so they are pretty good flutes from what I've heard of them.
Sadly I have a beginning Gemeinhardt still, so I just get to read about them. T____T
But both flute teachers I've had have owned a Jack Moore, so that's why I recommend them....nice flutes. But it's hard to find those used because everyone wants to keep theirs. They're still about 10,000 used. 20,000 new. The first chair flautist in the orchestra my teacher plays in owns a Miyazawa and she says that it's "divine".

Well, if you get that Muramatsu make sure to take it to the shop and have it looked at to make sure everything is working right. And make sure the seller has a guarantee or something.

Check this site's used and new flutes too. It's reliable.

None of my links are working anymore.... crying

I do like the Muramatsu flutes, I've seen a few online now - and they're pretty spiffy! I'm on their official website - THEY HAVE PLATINUM ONES!!

Whats your price range?
I tried out the yamaha and the gemindhardt. I liked the yamaha better. You really should go to a music store and try them out first. Then you can buy online if the price is better... Just make sure you are buying a good quality flute and not some flute that used to be nice but is now all dented and barely works....

You may also want to try out the Trevor J. James flutes out. I have one and I LOVE it!

Its really hard to find these nice flutes on eBay. I know they probably don't have them at the music stores around where I live....and I'd like a site that has pics of the flutes....

Here is a Muramatsu I liked too....
