Part One:

This is my first fanfiction, be gentle.

I do not own Naruto or any of it's characters, if I did, I would be rich.

It was a fine-looking morning in Konohagakure, the Village Hidden in the Leaves, and Uzumaki Naruto was bored. “Aaaaaaaargh! This is BORING! I mean, we’ve been here for three hours, and NOTHING IS HAPPENING! Will someone please tell me why we’re here?!?!” An x-shaped vein was pulsating on his forehead. His teacher, Hatake Kakashi, turned to face him and said, “For the fifth time, Naruto, we’re investigating a rumor that there will be an assassination attempt against Lord Hokage tonight. We’re going to stay here, quietly, and make sure that Lord Hokage stays safe.” His voice was soft and calm, yet with a subtle strength, like a swift river.

But you could feel a sense of annoyance in his voice. “Naruto, Shut up!” whispered Haruno Sakura. Unbeknownst to her, Naruto had been harboring a big secret crush on her. He started to blush, his cheeks turning reddish-pink. “What? Hey, that was mean, Sakura!” grumbled the orange jump-suited ninja. “Will all of you please shut up?! I don’t know if you guys forgot, but, WE’RE ON A MISSION!” hissed Uchiha Sasuke, the third member of Naruto’s team. “Now, let’s focus our attention back to watching over Lord Hokage, if none of you have any objections.” He was starting to feel a little bit annoyed with his teammates.

They stayed awake the entire night, but nothing happened to the Hokage, aside from some scattered tossing and turning brought on by random memories and personal dreams. When 5 o’clock rolled around, they heard a faint sound. It was very high-pitched. “It’s those ninja from that Sound Village!” gasped Naruto, after a few moments of straining to hear the sound. Kakashi listened intently for a few more moments, and then vanished in a few puffs of smoke and dust. “He must have found the location that the sound was coming from.” Mused Sakura, her turquoise eyes flashing in thought. “Sakura, you just can’t stay quiet, can you?” growled Sasuke, his frustration growing with each additional annoyance.

Then, they heard a muffled giggle coming from behind them. They turned around and saw……a small brown-haired boy with a towel tied around his neck like a cape. “Hey, Boss!” said the kid. “Konohamaru, what are you doing here?!" yelled Naruto after his heartbeat dropped back to within his normal range. “I live here, too, ya know! The Hokage is my Grandpa, remember?” exclaimed Konohamaru. “Oh, yeah! Heh heh! Sorry, I forgot about that!” remarked the blonde-headed boy, scratching the back of his head with his right hand. “I couldn’t sleep, so I walked around for a while, trying to make myself tired. I heard you guys talking, so I thought I’d sneak up on you and surprise you! I even whistled softly, and you know how good a whistler I am!” said the brown-haired boy. “That was you?! Kakashi-sensei just went to track down the source!” yelled Sakura. “Really? He must not be a good Jounin if he couldn’t even find a whistler sitting right behind him!” exclaimed Konohamaru.

Funny!!! Tee-hee!

Here's part two:

There was a sudden POOF sound and Kakashi appeared right behind him. “You know something?” asked Kakashi, his headband pulled down over his left eye, “Sound really travels and echoes in a place this size, like saying how someone’s not a good NINJA!”

Konohamaru froze and then turned around very slowly, his eyes becoming as wide as dinner plates. “By the way, Konohamaru, you stepped on a leaf when you entered these rafters a few minutes ago. I knew you were here the entire time. I just wanted to let you and Naruto talk.” said Kakashi nonchalantly. “Thanks a lot,” grumbles Naruto. “Really? You knew I was there the entire time?! You’re so cool!” said Konohamaru. “But, not as cool as you, Boss!” he stammered quickly. “Yeah, like Naruto’s better than Kakashi-sensei,” thought Sakura. Then Konohamaru said, “Hey, Boss! Wanna go train a little bit?! I’ve been practicing a lot!” “Can I, Kakashi, pleeeaaase?” pleaded Naruto. “Well, we don’t want you to be constantly distracted, and distracting the others, by the thought of missing a chance to get better, so yes, Naruto, you can go.” said Kakashi.

A few minutes later, Naruto and Konohamaru were out in the forest surrounding the Village. They walked into a clearing in the middle of the forest. They kept walking until there was about thirty between them. Then, Naruto yelled, “Now, come at me with everything you’ve got!” “All right, Boss! Here I come!” answered the little ninja. “You’d better watch out! I’ve been practicing, too! DATTEBAYO!!!” yelled Naruto. He ran up a nearby tree and threw a kunai at Konohamaru. Konohamaru was hit, but right when it hit, there was a puff of smoke, and in his place was a log with Naruto’s kunai stuck in it. Naruto stood still for a full thirty seconds, then thought, “Oh, man! He could be anywhere now!”

Five feet behind Naruto, small brown-haired boy was stifling a giggle. “Man, I can’t believe he hasn’t found me yet! I’ve been here for close to a minute now!” thought Konohamaru. Then, someone tapped him on the shoulder. He tensed up for a second, and then turned around and………..there was no one there! He breathed a sigh of relief and turned forward again. There was something orange in his face. He looked up and…..he saw a smiling Naruto! He yelled, “YIPES!”, and then punched Naruto in the face. He watched, stunned, as the yellow-headed ninja popped in a puff of smoke and dust! It was a shadow clone!, he thought.

Konohamaru looked left, then right, but saw nothing orange. He relaxed and climbed out of the bush he was hiding in. Right when he put his second foot back down on the ground, he felt something sharp press into the small of his back, at which point he froze. Then, when he finally mustered up enough courage, he slowly turned around to see………….a stick that had a kunai attached to it! Konohamaru looked at it closely and found that he couldn’t find anything holding the weapon to the stick. He felt very nervous all of a sudden. Suddenly, the stick was enveloped in a small cloud of dust and smoke, there was a POP sound……..and Naruto appeared, holding the kunai! Naruto threw the kunai at Konohamaru, who disappeared in a puff of smoke, yet again, and there appeared in his place, a log with a kunai stuck in it, yet again. He yanked his kunai from the log, and then made a hand sign, and yelled, “Kage Bunshin!” to produce six shadow clones. “All right, men. I need you guys to fan out and find Konohamaru! If you find him, come back and tell me where he is!” announced the original Naruto. This was answered by a resounding “Yes, sir!” from the six duplicate ninjas. They all jumped away, each in a different direction.

A few minutes later, one of the shadow clones saw a shivering bush, but there was no wind. He slowly crept up to the bush, and……It was only a bird. He turned around, but, right when the bird left his field of vision, he heard a POP, and he spun around…………..and saw Konohamaru trying to sneak away! The Naruto clone ran up to him, and threw an exploding kunai right at Konohamaru’s feet. It exploded, and alerted Naruto and all of the other clones as to the location of the formerly hidden ninja academy student.

Ok, now, how does that strike you as funny? Remember, I wrote it. I'm not seeing it for the first time. Please explain.

At about the same time, in a training area not far outside the Hidden Leaf Village, a rather determined young man in a forest-green body suit with orange-yellow leg warmers was punching and kicking a very battered upended log. With each impact of his bandaged hands, his black chili-bowl hairstyle would flit from side to side, shimmering the whole time. “If I cannot do 2,000 punches, then I will do 1,000 kicks!” Rock Lee proclaimed to the heavens. A few hours later, Rock Lee decided to take a brisk jog through the forest surrounding the Hidden Leaf Village. After putting on his weights and orange-yellow leg warmers, he leapt into the air, and began running and jumping through the trees.

Back at the Hokage’s mansion, Kakashi and the rest of Team 7 were wrapping up their surveillance of the sleeping Third Hokage. It was now seven o’clock, and there had been no unplanned events, aside from Konohamaru’s interruption two hours previously. “Man, that was so BORING!” grumbled Sakura. “Wow, that sounded just like Naruto, Sakura.” proclaimed Kakashi. Sakura instantly blushed, her face turning as pink as her hair, before turning even redder. “WHAT?! I’m just bored, that’s all!” exclaimed the pink-headed kunoichi. Her face was still red.

Two minutes later, the Hokage woke up, and said, “Kakashi, I would like to personally thank you and your team for accepting my C-Rank mission of keeping me safe overnight.” He then shook Kakashi’s hand, and then looked at the ninja again. “But, where is the last member of your squad? Where is Uzumaki Naruto?” asked the Third. “Last we saw him, he was going outside to train with your grandson, Konohamaru.” said Sakura, after quickly bowing once to him. “Ah, yes. I can see how Naruto would rather go and play with Konohamaru than do a boring mission, regardless of how important it may be.” said the Third Hokage, his voice soft yet rough, like freshly ground sand.

“So, Kakashi. How have your team’s preparations for the Chuunin Exam Finals been coming along?” asked the Hokage. “Well, I’ve mainly been training Sasuke, so I’m not exactly up-to-date with the other members of the squad. All I know is that Naruto is being trained by Jiraiya. Since Naruto was mumbling something about frogs yesterday, I’m assuming that Jiraiya is teaching him about summoning jutsus. That’s all I can gather about his training. And as you already know, Sakura was eliminated in her match against Yamanaka Ino by a double knock-out, during the preliminaries. So, she doesn’t need to train any more than necessary to maintain her skill level."
