Rain. Rain was all that Meilaer was able to see through the window, separating her from the cool, clear tears that fell from the sky repeatedly. It had lasted for three days. What was most worrying, was that Meilaer had found out from her parents that she was to be wed. The sudden shock had obviously caused chaos. What else could a seventeen year old princess do? She did not gaze at her plump maid when she began to speak.
“I cannot bear it. I think that this constant rain is a bad omen. I’m afraid.”
Meilaer pressed her forehead against the ice-cold glass, listening to the infinite drumming of the raindrops. It comforted her, and scared her, both at the same time. Meilaer pulled away from what she believed was an unbearable sight. Slowly, feeling the soft pink silk of her gown, the princess walked to her vanity, sitting down and staring into her own empty, amethyst eyes. They were beautiful, but had no spark to them. She was an elf, with the stereotypically pointed ears, straight platinum pink hair that floated down to her waist, and, the most enchanting of all, ivory skin.
“Don’t think that, Your Highness. I’m sure he is a fine lad. They say he is but a year older than you, a sweet gentleman, and a handsome one at that.”
Her maid, Mael, was smiling and humming a merry Elvin tune, sewing the new, elegant dress that Meilaer would wear for the ball in honor of their betrothal. It was blue, represented by the butterfly, and made Meilaer look like she was the queen of the forest.
Mael's plump curves added kindness to her facial features, all green, hidden underneath a pretty white veil, meaning that she was the one to care for Meilaer until the wedding. Not like it changed much. She had always been Mei’s second mother.
“But his personality is most important.”
Mei ended the discussion quickly with the tone of her voice. It was powerful. Fit for a future queen. Only Mei was a little seventeen year old girl who was timid beside any man. She could barely speak without choking on her words. Would she make a good impression? The thought gave her chills and a splitting headache. The princess would have taken a stroll, but the dreary weather stopped her from doing so. How refreshing it would be against her skin! But all the princess could clearly think of was the mysterious prince that all found handsome.
Soon after, hoof beats were heard, and Mei got up to watch the grand arrival. Maids and butlers outside her door were running around panickingly to set up last minute things to help the impression. It just wasn't the same war-loving father who'd organized it all.
200 years of war between the humans and elves. They knew no more of the reason it all started. And yet they continued. Her father loved going out to war, until he fell in love with the current queen, a noble princess of another Elvin kingdom. Then it was just like King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, from then on. And at that point, marrying his daughter off to the humans seemed normal. How could the king be so careless?
Meilaer's own maid walked out and down the steps into the Grand Hall. Her heart quickened as she heard to knights opening the large doors, her father arriving in that very room, her mother in tow, and even her older sister, Haithanir, only to greet three petty humans. They didn't even know about magic. Even then, any who did was burned at the stake. Would that happen to her if she failed to satisfy her husband?

Oh! The woes of being a fashion goddess. Everyone knew her name. She was the role model of all female beings in the USA. Even better than Miss United States. This girl was only eighteen, but she ruled over all with even more experience.
“Chin up a little, Alyssia.”
The photographer continued to snap pictures of her beautiful form, dressed as a Victorian princess, a delicate foot slipping out from under the long ruby dress to advertise for a new pair of ballet flats for Steve Madden. With beautiful, auburn hair that was down up into a romantic curl bun, and light brown eyes, that appeared golden under the flash of the camera, Alyssia was a real woman. She was not skinny, but quite voluptuous. To her fans’ happiness, she was a size four. Her pale skin was near translucent, glowing. It made the model look divine.
“Good job. Take a break.”
Alyssia sighed and went to sit down in a comfortable chair close by, before checking the messages on her phone. The model, behind the modest smiles formed by her soft pink lips, hid a depressed girl who was heartbroken forever. She saw that one of the little envelopes was from her boyfriend, and only the title was to be read to understand that another knife stabbed at Alyssia’s poor heart. She was alone, with no more loving father, a mother who calls her a mistake, no more boyfriend…There was no way to help her. Well, except for the amazingly gorgeous photographer, whom she considered to be her best friend. Her was a bit older than she was, but Alyssia didn’t mind. She was actually very smart and mature for her age, so it was all balanced out. He was actually in the next room, photographing a male model for a Calvin Klein ad. He was always somewhere close by, just for her. Her cheeks formed a little pink blush, making her look fresh again for the rest of the photoshoot.
