I wanted to take a moment to remember all the students, faculty, and families affected by the mad-man shootings at Virginia Tech today. I know that a lot of my members in this guild go to college...So this probably hits kinda close to home. Actually, this probably hits close to home for everyone. If anyone by chance knew someone at Virginia Tech (or attends Virginia Tech - I don't know where everyone is), I would like to give my condolences.
I did happen to drop by the General Discussion thread in the Gaia forums...There were a lot of threads about how sad the tragedy was, but there were also a lot of threads about why this wasn't very important. There were too many threads about that. Only 33 people died they said in their random heartless post...In my opinion, one person dying is one too many. Especially in circumstances such as this.
It's terrible that things like this happen. But, I had read those post about people stating the shooting as a statistic, rather than a tragedy, and that just upset me to no end. Imagine how many lives have been shook or ruined because of this man. No, because of this monster...It's horrible.

I have to agree with you that one death is too many. I was amazed to hear about this, especially considering all of the school security issues that came up with Columbine. But, evidently, the college set figured they were immune somehow, and didn't take any of the same kinds of precautions. I understand that keeping an eye on the general populace is a lot harder on a college campus, both due to the increased population, and due to the more fractured structure of college class schedules. But there were plenty of precautions that could have been taken. This is a horrible tragedy, as any death is, and I applaud efforts to take this seriously.
I join the rest of humanity in offering my condolences to the friends and family affected by this tragedy.
