Many places
biggrin That one specifically is part of the network operations center of a regional internet service provider in the Sacramento CA area... I was the network operations manager for 3 years there.
Since our office was a rather small one, I had 3 choices - 1, share an office with the business manager... 2, take a corner of the tech support and billing floor, or 3, convert half the server room into an office for myself.
The business manager's office was freezing - he kept the AC at 60. The tech support floor was loud and freezing, but not as bad as the BM's office. It was set at 60, but with all the warm bodies, it was more like 70 or 72... The server room was actually around 80 degrees because of the 40+ servers in it, and the AC being set for 55 with the exhaust fan turned off. And there I am sitting in it, in a sweater, with the door shut. I preferred it 85+ but I tried to keep it 80 for the sake of the boxes. Being a South Floridian means I enjoy the heat. I could also turn off the lights in there, and the constant flashing of switch LEDs, router LEDs, HD activity LEDs, power LEDs, 5 monitors, and the monitoring board kept it just bright enough to read a book but dark enough to make me feel like I was in a cave. The white noise was the same as if somebody was running a vacuum about 10 feet behind you, but oddly enough I found it relaxing... I really do miss that office.
