These mountains are the home to large beasts with the bodies of lions, but that move faster and are bigger. The beasts have no name, and feed on travellers. The only way around them is to make very little noise.
The skins of these beasts, however, are greatly prized, and so they draw many people to their mountains.
There is another way into the West, from the North. It would take months, however, to travel completely around the mountains, since the ridge does diminish and ends eventually, almost to the border of the South.
