DO NOT QUOTE THE FIRST POST! If you do, I shall ban your from the thread and notify the owners of the guild Also if you do not follow the rules.

Okay ya'll, so not only have I noticed that all the English Riding posts are stickies, but there is NOTHING ABOUT DRESSAGE! So, I am starting something. HA! Just to spite you ALL! ha

So, If you ride dressage:
What level?
Have you ever shown?
Do you own a dressage horse?
If yes, how old?
If yes, what breed?
If yes, what is their best movement?
If no, do you lease?
If no, do you ride a lesson horse?
If no, please still answer the questions about the horse you ride!

Please also answer:
Who your favorite international dressage rider is
Who your favorite internbational dressage horse is
What your favorite test is to ride (even if you can't ride it fully/properly)
What your least favorite test is to ride (even if you have not ridden it)
What your highest score is

Thank you! And LONG LIVE DRESSAGE!

I suppose that I should answer my questions to get the ball rolling...

What level? Traing at First right now, have trained up to Grand Prix though
Have you ever shown? Yes. Training level!
Do you own a dressage horse? Yeah! My baby, Skippy (shown under Jakob)
how old? 16 (does not show anymore)
what breed? Dutch Warmblood
what is their best movement? Tempi changes (mainly 2 tempis)

Who your favorite international dressage rider is: Right now it is a toss between Evi Strausser and Steffan Peters
Who your favorite internbational dressage horse is: Lingh, who used to be Edward Gal's mount but is now in the states.
What your favorite test is to ride (even if you can't ride it fully/properly): Most likely, 4th level test 3
What your least favorite test is to ride (even if you have not ridden it) :I HATE anything in Second level, the movements are really sudden and jerky.
What your highest score is :83.667% BABY!

I own a horse, and I think he'd be great in dressage - as I had some dressage lessons a couple years ago at the hunter/jumper and dressage barn I was riding at.

My hunter coach was ill and in her place was one of the dressage instructors. So I learned a lot of neat stuff from her - and I'd like to get into it more...

But... lessons are expensive and with paying board and other expenses I just don't have the extra money.

Is there any way I can get started? I'm teaching Riley some of the things I learned, with the help the barn owner's but I can only go so far...

Devil's Child: There are a couple of simple exercises that you can get Riley started on dressage using. Here is one that you can try. You might also want to look around where you live to see if there are any riders ho do dressage who can give you some help.

One of them is to start to get him working over his back. That means that he has to stretch over his topline. Keep him balanced and start at walk on a 20m circle. Once you have a consistant medium walk, foreward and free, keep the same walk and gather the reins so that there is good contact. Keep your hands steady and you have to be able to feel the contact of his mouth in your shoulder blades. Work his mouth (giving and taking pressure on the reins but not too harsh/fast/slow/often) so that he gives in. Most of them will start to chew. Don't see-saw your hands left and right. That hurts their mouths. Just wait and you will feel when his back lifts up. You'll feel it...

Just have patience, it will work with time. It takes a while for them to build the right muscles

Cherry, this is not a thread about Brat's mare, Anna. It is a thread about dressage, so unless you plan to talk about something specific of Brat's work with Anna in dressage, back off
