I have never watched buffy before and I got into it late 4th season and I have been watching it every day on fox and today was the season finale. I am balling so hard I dont think I have ever cried so much and for so long in my life. I starded crying when Spike first said ow because I knew what was going to happen but I'm still crying and I got done with it like 32 minutes ago. I'm so sad I loved the scene with Spike and Buffy I just think that Spike said no you don't so that Buffy would leave and not get killed crying I do belive SHE DID LOVE HIM because when they held hands it was symbolising the flame of love thing

I think you mean series finale! Well, it was a season finale, but it was mostly a series finale.

Flame of love? Mayhaps.

I think, in a way, Buffy did care for Spike. She may have even loved him. At the same time, everything pulls back to Angel when it comes to any Buffy relationship. She's not going to love anyone more than she loved Cap'n Forehead (which Spike was all too aware of - prob'ly one of the reasons they fought so much in the last season of Angel), though she does care for other guys she has relationships with.

When it comes to Spike, though, it's borderline. She went from hating him, to a kind of lust-"I just want to feel" kind of thing (almost like Cameron and Chase in House), to neutral, to hate/fear, to sympathy, and finally to a point where it was either almost love or love, but not the kind of soul-consuming (no pun intended) love she had with Angel. When she told Spike she loved him in the finale, I think it was a mix of trying to make him happy before he died and a "no regrets" kind of last-minute thing, where she knew she felt something - either love or close to it - for Spike and wanted him to know before he died.

As for Spike saying "no you don't" just to get her out of there, I can't help but think you might not be enitrely right. Sure, that may have been a part of it, but it once more goes back to Angel. Spike knew Buffy would never love him like he loved her, and seeing Angel and her back together (after Buff killed Caleb) just reaffirmed it. Despite all that, a part of him was ok with it. He has just glad that he had the chance to be with her for a while and hopefully make her happy.

I know he went out in the dramatics in the Buffy series finale, but I do gotta admit this: I kinda liked him in the Angel series finale more. Doing the heroics in both shows, but not as grand a scale in Angel. Simple but sincere, but still cocky as ever - he was the Spike we all know and love. And we all know he totally got to that dragon before Angel did. ;P

Same thing with me! I just watched the series finale for te first time last weekend, I watched the entire series. OMG! I agree. But i hear he comes back to life in the last season of angel... mb I'll watch it... OF COURSE I'll watch it! I MISS SPIKE!

Well, my view point: i think spike really did love her and buffy thought he didn't and that he wanted to own her. But after a while, sh starte to doubt that and then when she realized he'd die for her se truly does love him but afte so much time of only lust, and wanting her to get out, he says she doesn't.

OH GOD, I LOVE AND MISS SPIKE! lol

I gree with symbolism too, just no in that way. I believe that that meant that even though they loved eachother, theywere never really able to live out what their love truly couldhave.
