I know I'm going to be lost when all the artists here start talking about different techniques, but hopefully I'll learn something. Who knows, maybe I'll even try to put pencil to paper and see what comes of it. redface

My daughter and I stopped by the library yesterday so she could pick out some books for me to get started. Only they had no books currently in for beginners. sad But I did get one that's called " Drawing cutting edge comics" WAY to advance for me but I thought I'd try and draw eyes first.

i don't know what's a good book for beginning - I let my daughter borrow the one i'd suggest, but there's always The Monster Book of Manga: Draw like the experts.

    It's pretty good! O:
They don't get much into technique, since they assume a level of experience, but the do give a blow by blow of some really cute and cool characters.

If' you're ever looking for it, it's on Amazon, and the ISBN is 978-0-06-082993-3
Don't know if you need that >.>

But I can't wait to see what you do!

I've taught high school art classes, so I'm sort of from the school of learn-realism-first. Personally I've never found how-to-draw books very helpful. If you're gonna spend money on something, anatomy books are wicked resources wink

    That's also a great idea, gammyun! O:
    Can't believe I didn't think of it >.<
I've always found anatomy books boring, but they're great for learning to draw the difficult parts (like hands gonk ), and for proportion, too. :3

Exactly. Photo ref books are nice too. I have one on foreshortening that I use a lot.

I was drawing a picture and suddenly the song Breakfast At Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something came into my head and it's been stuck there all week. gonk Does anyone here listen to music while they draw?

I try to, and it helps a lot, but sometimes I get a spurt of inspiration, and I never get around to turning it on. xD
