Early Republic

In 25,000 BBY, the Corellians and Duros invented the hyperdrive proper, allowing Coruscant to become the capital of a democratic union—the Galactic Republic. The planet remained the Republic's capital for twenty five thousand years. Shortly after the formation of the Republic, the Perlemian Trade Route was mapped, linking Coruscant to Ossus and bringing the Jedi Knights into the Republic. Over the next millennium, the Corellian Run was mapped, linking Coruscant to Corellia and beyond. Blasters were also invented on Coruscant around this time, and the famous Galactic Museum was constructed in 12,000 BBY.

From the very beginning, Coruscant, as the Republic's capital, was the primary objective in several wars. The earliest among these was the Tionese War with the Honorable Union of Desevro and Tion in 24,000 BBY, in which Coruscant was bombarded with Tionese pressure bombs. Other early battles included the Alsakan Conflicts, the Duinuogwuin Contention, the Great Hyperspace War, the Third Great Schism, the Great Droid Revolution, and the Great Sith War.

Following the devastation of Ossus, the Jedi Council took up residence in the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, to which many Jedi relics from Ossus were taken. The Temple was greatly expanded, including the building of the original Jedi Council Chamber. The Temple was repeatedly expanded including in 3,519 BBY, 2,519 BBY (when the Jedi Archives were built), 2,019 BBY, and 1,000 BBY (when the Temple spires were built).

In 2,973 BBY, the Senate Rotunda was founded, replacing the previous assembly place. The exterior of this massive structure would survive the planet's transformation into the new Yuuzhan'tar.

1) Coruscant, being the capital of the republic, has an assload of space based cannons. There's a reason that people don't just attack it, this is one of them. Space platforms defend Coruscant, you need to have clearance codes to pass them by. More importantly, if the planet is under attack, or under suspicion of attack, the space turrets will be activated and accept no clearance codes except for the shut down sequence. The shut down sequence is of course a secret so closely guarded, that only by consent of all the Mod's should it ever be known to a player character, or even an NPC that would use it for ill.

2) Coruscant also has a planetary Defense Shield. You know how the death star was impervious to attack in RotJ? Thats because it had a similar thing projecting from ewok land. Difference is, the defense shields on coruscant kick alot more a**, and they're nowhere near as easy to shut down. Why? because there's at least 4 or 5 of them, and all need to go down before the shield would go kaput.

3) If coruscant goes under attack, the entire republic fleet (which would not be under jedi control) would rally to that point. Combined with the orbital defense turrets, it would kick the a** of just about anything.

4) back to the turrets. The turrets themselves have shields, and long range turbolasers. To take one out would require the same amount of effort as taking out...say..2 or 3 warships. And they would have the combined firepower rivaling the death star. Scary things this defensive net...you may ask why the vong got past it? they had spies. How did the rebels get past it? Bothans. However, neither sith nor jedi have access to these.

How does this all work out to RP? well, for the most part it just means that the sith can't invade coruscant. And that any sith fighter near coruscant would be shot down without mercy. No Matter What. Sith Infiltrators would have a chance, but once they decloaked they would be swarmed with republic soldiers. At best, the sith army would have maybe 10 infiltrators. It would be a total waste to even try and make an invasion with those. Mainly because the maximum capacity for them is 12 or 13 people. Even with 130 people, it would be a pathetic invasion that would be quashed by swarms of republic guardsmen. Even a Dark Lord of the Sith would be utterly (word censored) up the bum to try and take on that many people.
