From what I have read and understood (although I have been very confused at times) I think you can live by the principles of Buddhism and not have to be a believer. Not sure if I grasp this properly, but I think that if you were to try to change to conform to the principles then you're not really respecting the Buddha.

Someone once asked me if I followed Buddhism, to be honest with you I have never studied it. I do believe in karma though. I try to respect all to the best of my abilities. Can you elaborate a little of what being a buddhist means?

I don't know enough about Buddhism to state an opinion. I do know I try to live in harmony with other people and the world around me.

bohemian babie Someone once asked me if I followed Buddhism, to be honest with you I have never studied it. I do believe in karma though. I try to respect all to the best of my abilities. Can you elaborate a little of what being a buddhist means? Wow, that's a hard question. Am still trying to work that one out myself. I have only just started my quest/research. I think the answer would differ from person to person, depending on who you asked. From my muddled understandings, a Buddhist is someone who treats not only their fellow man with respect but themselves as well.

Arianah I don't know enough about Buddhism to state an opinion. I do know I try to live in harmony with other people and the world around me. As do I and my family. I'd just like to add, I am not a Buddhist or do I intend to become one. I have just always been interested in their teachings and because His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be visiting our city in June, I thought I would try to find out a bit of info and maybe a little understanding a long the way.

This subject is very interesting. Although I also have have my own personal beliefs (too complex to explain ninja ), being a very curious person; I definitely will try to learn more about Buddhism. It just seems like a nice philosophy to look into... 3nodding 4laugh .

I am so amazed at how cool, calm and collected Buddhists are. Think I could learn a lesson or two from them.

I just got his neat book called "Awakening the Buddha Within" by Lama Surya Das. Just into the first chapter, but I have dabbled with the idea of Buddhism since it expands my current ethical beliefs (I'm a vegan.)
