Allright.
Time for me to vent.
Have you ever been chased out of a fandom, or been ashamed to be a part of a fandom that had waaaaaaaaaay too many whiny fantards in it? Mainly those who tried to convince you their pairing of choice was canon, even when it obviously wasn't?
Allow me to elaborate. As many of you know, my interest in FMA has gone down dramatically. But it didn't happen that way overnight. All too often, I've been made to feel like a half-assed retard that didn't know what they were talking about because I didn't support someone's pairing of choice. Then what would they do? They'd try to convince me of "How canon it is", and tried to convince me it was even MORE canon than another pairing that I support. This, of course, it just one example.
That's one way to get me to hate a pairing real fast. Trying to convince me of how freaken' "canon" it is. I don't care how heavily implied EdWin is, or how "close" the Elrics are - so close that incest MUST be happening - unless they confess their love for each other, or are seen/implied to have boned each other, then IT IS NOT canon. Sorry, but it just isn't, and stop trying to convince me.
Please know that this thread isn't directed at any one of you in particular [though if any of you have actually done this...then I'm ashamed, to say the least], but at the numerous fans in the FMA fandom that have done this to me and many others.
I also don't have a problem with the pairings themselves [though I do not like one of my examples, Elricest, and I'm not a wild fangirl of EdWin either], just people shoving them in my face and trying to convince me of how canon they are. It is stuff like this that makes me thankful Xenosaga and Trauma Center aren't as NEARLY as popular as FMA. While I would indeed like more fans, I'm glad the fantards haven't invaded my fandom. Or, at least, there's not nearly as many.
It's also stuff like this that has nearly made me cut ties with FMA and its fandom entirely.
Sorry if I sound elitist -- I don't mean to be. But now you know my beef with the FMA fandom. Sure, I can just ignore it, but when they swarm as much as they do...in the DRONES...then, it's kinda hard NOT to, sometimes.

I'm not wild about either pairings.
I liked the more "out there" pairing...like Roy/Winry. That could have so much angst in there, it's scary. It makes total sense in the anime...but not the manga.
But it's my love for that pairing that made me lay off the age difference deal in Roy/Ed...though I sitll hate that pairing, since It's way overplayed and conflicts with Roy/Winry XD
But yeah. Like and hate the pairings you like and hate. Just as long as no one shoves them down my throat. ._.

I support almost no mainstream pairings outside of the CLAMP fandom so I pretty much get used to people trying to shove pairings I don't like down my thraot. Like, say, the mangakas themselves? :/
See, in a case like EdWin, I agree with you. It's heavily implied but not canon. However, a lot of people think the same way in the CLAMP fandoms and are generally wrong. CLAMP operates in a different way. In the CLAMP world, it's rare for a couple to outright say, "I LOVE YOU!" but it's through their actions and other things they say that makes you know they are a couple. In my immediate memory, only one couple in all of the CLAMP world ever actually used the phrase 'love' and you must realize how many CLAMP couples are canon. So the fans in the CLAMP fandom who claim that if a person doesn't use love then it isn't canon really... kinda missed something. o.O That's one of the things I love about CLAMP, though. The word love is so rarely used. Instead they opt to say, "Number one person" or "someone just for me" or something to that effect. It's cuter that way, I think. And sometimes more tragic... *coughTokyoBabyloncough* So, for example, in the case of Kurogane and Fai of my beloved TRC fandom, has the word love been used? No. Of course not. But other things they have said have confirmed that their feelings for each other run deeper than friendship and in the world of CLAMP, that makes them canon. Or should I say, 99.9% canon because they still need one final push to get them together and I think that push has come.
But it seems that new fans coming into the fandom really do NOT seem to get this. At all. They missed several memos on the CLAMP fandom, one of which states that we are the friendliest group of elitest bastards you'll ever meet. ^^" One also states that CLAMP is ready and willing to throw in a few gay and lesbian couples into all of their works. And a super important one being that if someone has a soulmate in one world, they will remain soulmates in whatever world they exist on. If one of them isn't on that world, then the one who does does not hook up randomly with someone else.
Now, keeping that in mind, what was the whole purpose of Chobits? It was to explain that Hideki is Chii's one and only. Now, if that's the case, why in the world would CLAMP break the two of them up in order to hook Chii up with Fai in TRC? o.O And yes, some people really believe that Fai/Chii is canon. Given, most of those people are anime fans and haven't even picked up a volume of Chobits or TRC but still. The fans who really believe Fai/Chii is canon need their heads checked stat. Now, I don't care if they like it but they need to get their facts straight if they think it's actually gonna happen. Morons.
The good thing about the CLAMP fandom is that, like I said, we're basically the friendliest elitest bastards you will ever come across. Our fandom is teh sacred and we will basically only let you in... if you show some intelligence and you don't cause wank. We don't care what pairing you support. If you support a non-canon couple, we don't care as long as you don't try to state that it is canon. If you do... you basically get fried. xD
So there are fantards in our fandom but the intelligence outweighs the fanbrats because the intelligence swarms and basically eliminates all stupidity before it has a chance to spread. The exceptions being the anime fandoms because the anime fandoms tend to be beyond saving. :/

That's why i'm afraid to wade too deep into the CLAMP fandom though. The only series I have completed is Angelic Layer, and right now I'm working on Chobits...I should work on TRC, but it's really long and FMA's already taken a big chunk out of my wallet XD

I just finished buying the rest of all my unfinished series,
and I've started buying the manga of my newest obsession.
Maybe I'll just read and not buy...

@Ami: TRC starts is kinda dull around volume... 10 -12. It basically really slows down and gets really boring. And then CLAMP pulls volume thirteen + in which it gets so violent, angsty, and gay that it puts FMA to shame on the level of drama. O.O

Cardcaptor Sakura = FLUFFIEST THING EVER. With lots of gay and canon crack pairings.
And honestly, TRC doesn't have, like... any drama until volume 15. O.O Everything before that is fluff and rabbits. Literally. They land in a world with dancing rabbits.

Hmm, to be honest I don't have any FMA fantards shoving anything in my face.
Mainly because I hang around an FMA forum that actually has intelligent FMA discussions.
Then again this is one of the reasons I ended up hating Inuyasha & Naruto.
And then there are rude FMA fans who can't respect the fact that someone else doesn't like their show.
I've seen some intelligent people who don't like FMA and when they go in to a thread saying their opinion why they don't like it or something like that, they wind up with flames in their face.
I'm actually quite respectful of other people and don't shove pairings in their faces.
Then again I have a friend who hates EdWin and I just tease her about it and show her pictures of it, just to get her mad.

And I don't even consider FMA to be angst. More like one of those series aimed at 13-14 year olds but slightly more intelligent and not as repeatitve.
