I don't even know how to say it to some of my friends, or how many times I will get punched, laughed at, etc. Let's just say my friends aren't the nicest or most open-minded people rolleyes . And my father is really a brillant man, but he has his opinions, and trys to force them as facts on everyone, speaking against his opinions always sets him off.

Depends on your parents I suppose. My parents have known for a few years....I don't remember how they came to know but they don't bother me or hate me about it.
Also my Mom somewhat admires Latino Leftists.

My father used to be a fan of Mao (even have a real Mao hat which has hod up pretty well.) but didnt go as far as I have in reading text atleast for personal reading. Eventually ill look at Maoism but Im fare more interested in theory and at the Moment of Schumpter, Althusser and Hoxha.

"Mom. Dad. I'm....a communist." Yeah I have to admit I have no idea how you feel, my dad's a communist and my mom's a socialist so I've been a communist since I found out about it in 5th grade. If your friends wouldn't accept it, then they aren't your friends. Someone who would stop being someone's friend because they had different views are biggoted assholes. Just explain it, or if it comes up in conversation just mention it, if you're talking about the democratic party or lebiralism or wherever their political loyalties lie just bring up how the dems are as bad as the republicans. Or just throw some communist manifesto at them, or talk about the ideal system where all people are treated equally with no big body government. Then if they agree say that's communism.

I would be shot if I said that, here in my area. Theres a state law banning being a communist or even talking to one, its still in the books still.

Wow, yeah I know it used to be illegal to be in the communist party but it's ignored now but that's not even a law in Texas. That's pretty crazy man, watch out for that patriot act, it's a b***h for the commies.

I only tell them that I'm a communist in indirect ways, for example, when we talk about politics, or when the a*****e of Antonio Saca is speaking on th radio. But the only one that really knows that I'm a commie is my mom.

Actually, it was never "illegal" to be a member of the CPUSA, but you did have to registure as an agent of a foreign state (the USSR) in order to be legally allowed to join, otherwise you'd be prosecuted for espionage - and if you did say you were an agent of moscow you left yourself open to all sorts of offenses and lost job oppertunities.

Or you could be like me and just not tell the family....
My friends all know though, or at least my close friends. They're all suprisingly cool with it. Differences in political opinions don't mean that people can't be friends. One of my best friends here is a free-market libertarian, and we get along just fine. As for telling my friends... well, since I'm in college now, I've tended to be open about it in social situations, but not so much in classroom ones. And in high school only one or two close friends actually knew.
