Fads on Gaia are alot more obvious now because of the top 5 thread list.
Some recent ones are the dice roll games and banks.
People just trying to get popular quick.
One of the oldest ones is giveaways, not the fad, it's semi-old, but giveaways, atleast successful ones back in the day are/were rare. Now you see every noob and its grandma "claiming" to giveaway items and have page contests with the worst prizes. Asking for donations and such to fund it. I may be a hypocrite, and by that, I mean I have a little thing at the bottom of my giveaway saying donations are accepted and appreciated and the like, but I usually just let them rot in my bank because I'm far too lazy to accept them. But everyong else would have the biggest red letters asking for donations, and it would be the first thing in their post, if you ask for donations for your giveaway, then it's not your giveaway if you aren't supplying the goods, you're just a middle man getting all the glory.
Another fad that even I tried where those "Whoever donates the most in an hour gets a ______" contest, which I was going to use to fund my giveaway, but I always had to cancel and give refunds because I never got enough to match the price of the item I was giving away. And now those threads are illegal. xD
But I had a friend who would always do them perfectly. He got alot of gold quick. He got a devil tail in like a week. D:
But as I said, or atleast I think I said, giveaways are the oldest things in Gaia that have been turned to shame, one of the best giveaways I remember was by Marlok, I'm not sure if he goes on anymore, but he had the best giveaway I remember, he inspired me to make mine which is probably the biggest actual giveaway currently, I had to close it down for a month because it got on the top five, then it was in first place and got so much spam and noobs. I had a partner in it, but he's gone, we gave 5 million away total. Which was in the course of a year.
But now I feel I'm ranting on about the good ol' days, so I'm going to leave it at this:
Fads piss me off.

I don't know. Ever since I found the joys of guilds- which was preGGN even at that time, I would rarely step out into the forums. Really now the only forum I go into is the GCD. And every now and then I'll venture into the Mini Shops to go look at the art stores/ contests/ auctions.
So I'm not up to par with fads that exist with the forums- like thread posting fads and whatnot.

I used to go to your giveaway thread for a while.
I found it really enjoyable when people were there.
But unfortunately I have the attention span of a gnat and I'm always in PYPs so I like never go to giveaway threads anymore.
Also because I normally never get anything. =

I don't really like the dice roll thing, I dunno why but maybe it has something to do with the fact that I would never get the correct number to win. <_<;
The banks are a little iffy, I can't say I would trust someone I don't know with my gold even if it is pixels, I did work to get them. xD
Giveaways, are nice when they're done right.
But lately I can say many of them aren't, like you've said Fox Boy, the people who run it want donations towards the giveaway [or lottos or what-not]. I had a giveaway, it sucked and I didn't even ask for donations towards it [maybe for myself] but I originally had the gold.
Then again with AI 10k isn't a lot to gain I suppose. <_<;
I do remember my first and favorite all time giveaway in which I meet most of my friends, back in like 05 I believe~ my friend GlueSniffa;
Man, it wasn't even about the money, the people there were great and it was loads of fun; I mean more people where talking instead of ten pages of bumps in a roll like now days. .__.'
-sighs- I miss those times. ;-;
Then it was like the nOObs came and killed Gaia and it's great old members and traditions. >_<'
I also noticed the hype for 1k shop's died down a bit.
With so many people on Gaia I'm guessing it's a slim chance you'll luck up and get the Staff of the Angels for 1k. xD

I consider those attention scams... They still your attention... When I do giveaway threads I usually ask people not to give thumbs up because I don't want to seem like those people who just do giveaways to be "cool" and get attention... A bunch of idiots if you ask me..
And I really don't see the point of banks... Seriously.

When I do giveaway threads I usually ask people not to give thumbs up because I don't want to seem like those people who just do giveaways to be "cool" and get attention... A bunch of idiots if you ask me.. And I really don't see the point of banks... Seriously.
I wouldn't want a giveaway thumbed up because the wrong kinds of people spam it up, then it's moved into the CB.
All because a couple nOObs.
Ruins it for everyone else.
Well the Gaian-made banks are mostly to give you intrest on your sitting gold.
But usually it's not a whole lot unless you have hundreds of thousands of gold to put in up front.
I'm not too fond with the fact that it's mere Gaian members running them, maybe if it was a mod.
Then I could see people willing to trust them with their gold.
But just a member?
Nah.
I think I'll just keep to the hope that Gaian will open its own bank soon.
