What do you think the meaning to "another brick in the wall"?
my thought is that the first on is war. war is the first brick in the wall becuz every thing is becuz of that for example the wife beatting the husban and the husband beatting the kids (pt 2.) and why pink dose notn have a father(alive). and then you start to go crazy (pt 3) but i think war is a migher part of why pink floyd made that song well not only that but also made the cd (the wall). war is why there is no world peace (well is is bush's fualt but that is not the point(nothing agenst any one who is for him in the us))! i think worlkd peace needs to be there becuz with out is the world is full of terror and hate!!! i think that that is why pink floyd made another brick in the wall!! well and the cd the wall for that matter!
Post here and let me know what you think the resoning behind "another brick in the wall"!!

I think the song is a parallel to society. It is so obvious from the movie. Some may be an influence of the war though. It paralells society because people are just followers. They cannot think for themselves, so they follow those who can. That is how trends and stuff get started. People are afraid of change, and those who say that they aren't, are the ones who are the most. The theme "Another brick in the wall", is how the "bricks" are memories, that eventually drive Pink insane. Those bits and pieces of reality and memories of his father and the war drive him to insanity. You have to really listen to the album. Listen to the lyrics of it. You'll be amazed at how much and many meanings the lyrics to, not just the wall, but any Floyd song has. How much depth it contains.
So yeah. That's what I think of it.

pink_floyd95 well, the real answer is that through pink floyds (bob geldoff) downard spiral into madness, he becomes more and more isolated from the world. building a wall of isolation. so another brick in the wall is a metaphor for his continued isolation. . I agree with this meaning more than the others. I don't think politics was the main point of the movie, it was about him going crazy because of all the war, mental abuse, politics, and everything else.

Post here and let me know what you think the resoning behind "another brick in the wall"!! Another Brick is about the trials that Pink went through leading up to his building of the wall, it has NOTHING to do with anarchy.... But, like I said, it can be interpreted different ways

Rhayvnne Real answer? You've got to be kidding me. Everyone here is entitled to their own opinion. Yes, you are right. Anyone can interpret the movie in any way they want. But I found an Interview with some guy that like, directed or did something with the movie and alot of that is what he said.

I have a different interpretation of it. In my opinion, it meant that like, he was starting to build a wall between him and others and everytime something screwed up, or something bad happened (like a bad flash back, war, people etc) he would put another brick in his wall, therefore cutting himself from society. I agree with what Rhayvnne said.

To me Another Brick in the Wall is the holistic perspective on the emotional barriers people put up, that being the main theme of the album. It definetly makes some of the more important statements though, such as "all in all, were all just bricks in the wall." I've always thought that The Wall was best listened beginning to end though, as to include ideas such as the thin ice of life, and the worms, becoming comfortably numb. I'd say my single favorite quote would be "Is there anybody out there?"

my thought is that he is parrelleling life and the way there are always people like him. In the early songs, his daddy dies-by Hitler(in effect)- by a dictator(cold evil man). He feels out of place and becomes isolated(a 'wall' is between him and the others). This 'wall' grows as he goes through life.

So he feels unimportant and insignificant(we're all just bricks in the wall) and grows worse and worse. He begs for attention/love (young lust/don't leave me now/hey you). Afterwards he realizes that it isn't worth it(goodbye cruel world), until he's comfortably numb and doesn't care what people say about him anymore(your lips move, but I can't here what you're saying). Then he sees that "the show must go on"

So, to manage to go on, he completely closes himself off from society- he completes the wall. So he comes back, saying that 'pink'(as in the old human one) wasn't well so he came instead. He becomes a dictator-type person(like Hitler). He calls for 'unworthy ones' to die, and threatens them(run like hell). WAITING FOR THE WORMS-He knows he will be captured by the 'worms', he is waiting. To halt this from coming about, he makes promises to people that are pretty much lies and throws in false niceties(Would you like to se brittania rule again, my FRIEND? All you need to do is follow the worms!). The worms are symbolic of the enemy or the opposite side.

STOP-Then, he realizes what is wrong with what he has done, and he wants it to just stop(i wanna go home, take off this uniform and leave the show). He needs to know what others think though(i'm waiting in this cell because i have to know, Have i been giulty all this time??) Then it goes on to...
The Trial- He feels that everyone was against him from the start(the school master says"i always said he'd come to no good in the end", his wife"I hope they throw away the key") and his mother doesn't understand how her sheltering him is part of the problem("let me hold you in my arms, m'lord i never wanted him to get in any trouble, why'd he EVER have to leave me... let me take him home") He feels like his wanting to care was a crime(the prisoner, now stands before you, was caught red handed showing FEELINGS-showing feelings of any almost.... human nature-this will not due!) He thinks he is crazy for his feelings(i'm crazy.. he's crazy bits)

THe jurisdiction of the trial: He feels he is guilty for giving in to the feeling and letting them control him-"the evidence before the court is incontrivertable(unarguable), in all by years of judging i have NEVER heard before of someone more deserving of the full penalty of law!" The judge of the case is The Worm(as in the enemy), so he can't expect a fair trial. As a result of his actions(or possibly the album itself) he is "exposed before your peers".That was his sentence, as in they tear down his emotional wall(possibly the trial is indicitive of a breakdown, in which everyone sees 'the real pink') Towrads the end of the song, we hear people to shouting to "tear down the wall", which symbolises how people like to see others crack. At the end we hear an explosion(the wall being destoyed).
I will write down the ending soon, just don't have time right now. Sorry it took so long biggrin
