Some of us may know of this, and some of us may not. I really don't know. This is when a person tears apart another person's fiction with no valid basis, and makes the author feel as if they, their skills and the time and effort they put into a fiction are completely useless.

Recently, I've been seeing too much of this going on at fanfiction.net(and I must let you all know this...I haven't been there in a long time. It's coming to me from an outside source). A good handful of my friends, all fairly good Lion King fanauthors, have fallen victim to the flames of these jerks. It's been affecting the entire community of authors around me at that site, and now I'm finding hard not acting on the matter. The authors I support are being brutally torn apart.

The biggest problem we have is a guy named Flame Rising. He is, from what I've seen, the worst flamer the site has ever seen. He is the type that enjoys hurting people, and doing anything to do it. This guy has been banned at least 15 times already, but he continues to make new accounts and...keeps doing what he does best. I am NOT saying this so that you can go curse at the guy through a PM. DO NOT DO THAT! He will just do to you the same he does to anyone else. No PMs to him.

The entire point of this topic is to ask whether any of you have been flamed constantly before and, if you have, what did you do to resolve it?

We can also talk about just how morally wrong it is to do such a thing as this! It's freaking disgusting!

I've only had a few flames on Fanfiction.net. Falmings jsut make me mad, there is a such thign as constructive critzim. Which is better then a flame. I also thinkt hat somtimes if a story really does drive you insane, you should just leave in private or say it in a nice way. Good Idea for a topic Khorgan!

Fictionpress.com has had similar problems but I don't think it was quite to the extent of what's going on at ff.net (though there are users there who have accounts just for flaming, too). I'm one of the friends Ennairea was talking about- I've had run ins with two or three users on FP.com who weren't all that...shall we say, respectful of other writers. In one case I did respond to the flamer, and found out by reading reviews on her works that she had been flaming other people and they had been responding right back in kind. Her reputation has gotten so bad that she now has her profile saying that if anyone wants to respond to one of her reviews, they should email her directly rather than leaving it in a review.

Personally, I never flame. It has less to do with the quality of whatever I'm reading, and more to do with the fact that I don't like pissing people off without reason. I try to balance every criticism with praise...if what I'm reading is honestly not good enough to do that, I won't review at all (actually if it's that bad I won't read enough of it to say much of anything in a review anyhow).

I've not been flamed... yet... I've been post-Nazied, not flamed.

It's a somewhat affectionate term my girlfriend coined for the way I tend to go through a story and pay more attention to the grammar and punctuation than the plot. Check the R&R subforum for examples.
