OK. So... I have a serious issue with procrastination. I have an extremely limited attention span and I have issues focusing on things for long periods of time. My main example would be my outlines for AP European History. I mean.. I eventually get them finished, but I go way beyond what I consider within reason time-wise. They're not that difficult to do either, ranging from about 20-30 pages in length. I just have.. issues focusing.

Tips or ideas on how to beat down on my procrastination problem?

(edit: I think this somewhat qualifies as a "strange thing." I wasn't quite sure where to post this though. If it must be moved, ><; go ahead.)

Is the problem that you just don't want to do the stuff, or is it that you always find a distraction and do something else?

I had trouble with just not wanting to do it, as it's all so boring.
I got over most of my procrastination problem by just going home, and saying to myself it's better to be here than to be at school, and I should be able to enjoy doing the homework more away from school.*
Along with that, I just make sure I go home, get a snack, and don't go watch TV or use the computer instead. This way I feel more focused, and it feels like 'homework time' instead of 'home/fun time'.
That's what I think helped the most.

Other ways that helped a little for me were things like saying I just need to get my work done so I can get a good grade to get into a good college. Also, just saying to myself I need to understand the work, or I'll be even more behind. But that's only if I don't understand it well. If I do understand it, I just say it's easy and try to get it over with.

* There's basically nobody at my school that I like very much, and so being anywhere near the place is like torture. If you like school, this method wouldn't work.

And to your Edit
Yes, this is the perfect place for this kind of thing.
I'm not strict about that stuff, so just put it where it seems to best fit.

Well it's more of a issue with getting distracted I have.. the attention span of a young child and I'm in high school. I mean, when I force myself, I can focus, but getting to that point of having forced myself or even just realizing that I am procrastinating is a bit difficult.

There's also an overfondness (not a word, I know) for my computer and the Internet.

Wow - I have got the exact same problem and I can't really have 'homework time' because most of my homework, I need to utilize the internet for so it's mainly 'home/fun time'. However, if I do not do my homework, I go insane. I really do. I will stay up all night if I have to do my homework. This leads to other things like sleep deprivation but I don't know. And I get perfect grades so I don't necessarily agree to Aar000n3y's ways. I mean, right now, I should be reading Ch. 3 of Great Gatsby and doing vocabulary, but I'm on gaia helping people with their science homework. I've tried to quit gaia, but I've got other distractions when I'm not on gaia, like IM...

Anyway, do what you want, and even though this seems vague, different people have different ways to conquer things. I could never do Aar000n3y's way. My way works fine for me, but I am just masking my problem. I can sleep on the weekends. This is also the reason why I have ghastly bags under my eyes

Okay, I usually only have not wanting to do it problems, but I'll try to help.

See if you can find a room in your house that doesn't have any distractions for you. If that doesn't work, see if you can find some things that help you concentrate. Music has helped me before. Just try not to use music with very many words.

If you absolutely need the computer for your homework, just shut off all of the crap that distracts you. IM service, Internet browser, games, etc. Disable the internet if you have to.

Also try taking breaks from your homework. Just make sure the breaks aren't too long. 5-9 minutes usually works for me. I usually get a snack, check gaia, or whatever I feel like as long as I don't get stuck. Getting stuck gives me a lot of trouble. If you have trouble getting stuck on things, try to avoid them.

I usually try not to procrastinate, but I might know some good tips to prevent it.

Usually, to spice things up, a teacher will give you a choice project. Almost like a senior project, but within perimeters to what the class is learning. Like say, a science teacher telling you to make a Bohr model of the periodic table, or an English teacher telling you to write a 2 page story about anything.

If you choose a subject or application of a skill that you like, the time is well spent and thoughtful, making it effortless and literally pain-free.

Example- The English teacher and the 2-page story. I wrote about Pokemon, yes, Pokemon. It took me a little under an Hour and I got an A+. Usually I procrastinate when I have to write more then a page, making my writing a little more then a shadow or what it normally is, but I chose a topic that I really liked and got it done the first day.

I hope this helps.

Yes, I totally agree with this (even though I procrastinated on this as well) because I wrote this in a topic in the Science forum. Choosing something you want to do is awesome because you actually have fun doing it. For Englsih class, we were starting Gatsby and our teacher asked us to research the 1920s. I researched Aviation and Lindbergh because I love planes, and I built a stick and tissue plane, which flew for a measly 30 seconds but the class was impressed. But I procrastinated on this too, but had fun, so it was all good.

my problem is that when I get my homework and I'm on the way home I start out really strong! I think "ok, I'm actually going to do my homework today" and then as I get nearer and nearer to home I get a little less and less focused on doing my homework and by the time I walk through the door-

...What homework?

I know what you mean

At school, I'm very focused, but when I get home, I feel like it's just time to be at home, away from all of that crap. I got into the habit of coming home quickly and doing it immediately though, which helped a lot.
