I love this band. Their last two albums haven't been to great, but their first ones kicked a**. Their female singer, Vibeke, just left. There was a rumor going that she is going to replace Tarja as the lead singer of Nightwish, but in truth, she is a primary school teacher in Norway. I want to be one of those kids crying , Vibeke is ******** hot.

I absolutely love Tristania. Their music is fantastic. I actually think I might listen to them after having breakfast when my Dark Tranquillity album is finished.

Oh yes, despite what MANY fans will say, I love Ashes.

I have an undying love for this band! And Ashes is not that bad, not as good as other albums, but still not bad at all IMO.

Ashes is the only Tristania album I actually own. I want their first one, but I can't find it anywhere.

I can't have any of their cds. They don't sell them here, my aunt has to buy it online, but she won't because the lyrics are "to dark and satanic" (the only lyrics she has read is "Wormwood"). I guess I have to settle with listening to them on Myspace and YouTube.

Are you serious? Since when do lyrics make a band what they are? If you really want to find their stuff, I can get links for some albums.

She thinks that is I listen to "dark, evil, and violent" things, then I will become depressed or violent. She works at the child protective services here, so she is a little too protective.

I am good with listening to them on YouTube and Myspace. I can listen to the whole World of Glass cd and a few songs on their other cds.

gonk If anything, Tristania is like an anti-depression pill. W-T-F.

My aunt doesn't get the beauty of the contrasts of light and dark in gothic metal. She doesn't get the instuments, the growls, the operetic vocals, or the lyrics. My other aunt acually likes Nightwish because of their symphonic elements and Tarja's voice, but she doesn't get Tristania either. Acually, I think I am the only one I know who likes them.

Vibeke has the best voice in gothic metal, hands down.
It is really too bad she quit Tristania. I sort of liked the way they were going with their new sound..
I hope they find someone just as good to replace her. It should be quite a challenge.

Oh god, I hated where they were going. Ashes I think is not even worth buying. Even World of Glass is hardly worth it. This view is something I share with most old Tristania fans.
The backbone of the band, Morten Veland, left them because he didn't want them to make this new music just to earn money. Thats what the rest of the band started doing, they took after (a band I really don't like) Nightwish. They even went on a tour as warm ups for Nightwish.
They sank quite low a little while after World of Glass because alot of old fans were really dissapointed. They also went on a tour where they were warmup for this new up and coming Norwegian "dark electronics metal" band called Gothminister. I went to one of those concers and the band only dare play ONE of the World of Glass songs if I remember correctly. (Also, since Gothminister is such a "party" band compared to Tristania when they got on stage everyone wished they hadn't had to suffer through Tristania. Had Gothminister played before Tristania it would have been a MUCH better concert)
Morten Veland went on to form Sirenia, which made a few songs very like the old Tristania. But no singer is as good as Vibeke, and personally I think Sirenia lacks all the grand things like the orchestras that the old Tristania liked using. Their music as a bit too "simple".

So end conclution? =p What seems to be the most popular album of the old ones is Widow's Weeds. My favourite album is Beyond the Veil because while WW have some good songs, the songs "fit" better together on Beyond the Veil.

World Of Glass is one of the best gothic albums ever in my opinion.

So, it seems that they have found a new singer. This letter can be found on their website.

Quote:
To our dear fans,

On behalf of Tristania, and myself, I would like to apologize for the silence from our camp these last few months. It has not been our intention to keep you in the dark, or to hide from our responsibility to inform you about what is really going on. We also apologize for the lack of updates on tristania.com, it has been neglected for too long. Both the band and the webmaster promise to make sure that the site will be updated more frequently for the future.

Vibeke`s departure from the band obviously came as a shock to you, as it did to us when she told us she intended to leave. The fact that she didn't write you a few lines before she took off might seem strange to us all, I don't want to raise any speculations about why. It was her decision to make. But I think it was the wrong one.

A couple of months ago, we had all these rumours about Vibeke and Nightwish. Where all those stories came from, we don't know, and frankly: We don't care. The cold facts are that she is not a part of Tristania, anymore, and that is what we have to relate to.

It has been very frustrating for us that we have been unable to tour with Illumination. A summer without playing festivals has been difficult. Except of a couple years where we have been busy in the studio, Tristania has done summer festivals every year since 1998. Obviously something has been missing.

The songs from Illumination suit the live format very well. They have got this special energy that makes many of the songs perfect for the stage. We experienced this during the last gigs we did last year, even though the songs were yet not released, the crowds did respond very well to them.

Now we can’t wait to continue with touring. Day jobs are boring. At least mine is. I know I am not the only restless member of the band.

Despite the frustration with not being able to tour, we have used the spring and summer well in the search for the new singer that can fill the shoes of Vibeke, and also take Tristania to the next level.

We have been looking for something fresh; a voice with character and identity. An imitation of the former singer is the last thing we want, but this special someone also must be able to sing the classics. We take our past with us in the future.

We have received demos from many candidates from all over the world. Some of them were asked to send more material, and a few of them have been invited to Norway where we have been working with them in our studio.

It is with great relief we are announcing that this search is now over, and we will bring you more details around this soon.

We would like to thank each and every person that contacted us and sent material. It has been deeply appreciated.

Anders and Einar are working on new stuff, the engines are still running. I am eager to hear it.

I am doing a lot of writing these days, working on numerous projects in various areas.

Kenneth has had surgery on his knee, and hopefully he will be fit for some heavy touring soon.

Well, that is about it. We hope you are all well. We will try to update the 'news'-section on a monthly basis.

Big news will be revealed soon…

Greetings from Østen / Tristania
