The question asked from day 1: Who the hell is Satoshi's father? He is mentioned once in episode 2, and never again. Never a picture, a clue, a hint, or even a whisper. -sighs-
But, theories have arisen. So, here are the possible, most popular answered, and my opinion on who the hell knocked up Delia?
HaleShipper - Delia & Spencer Hale
Pokemon 3 introduces Pokemon researcher, Spencer Hale. He was a previous student of Professor Oak's (or at least studied at the preserve) who was at least acquainted with Delia, as shown in the picture above. Later, Professor Hale brought his new wife and daughter back to the preserve for an update of this picture. The connection between Spencer and Delia during the Pallet Town years was something fairly strong… both Delia and Spencer have copies of these pictures displayed in their home (Delia keeps hers on the refrigerator, while Spencer's occupies a frame in his daughter Molly's room).
But wait! There's more! Delia is concerned during Spencer's disappearance, and she hurries to his estate in Greenfield when the Unown, fueled by Molly's desires, begin turning the land into crystal. While we don't really know the depth of feeling Spencer may have for Delia, we do know that the picture rests in his daughter's bedroom--and we know that Molly felt comfortable enough to take this woman as her "mother."
And let's not forget that Spencer has dark eyes and hair--much like a certain trainer whose progress we've followed from day one of Pokemon. Could this man be Ash's father?
Haleshipping is another one of those ships that hasn't really caught on (and much to my own irritation, there's not very much fic and no webpages devoted to it). That's too bad, because in my opinion, this is the closest we've gotten to a potential love interest for Delia. We do have the benefit of knowing that, as a character who's only appeared in one movie, he probably won't return to wreck our ship. But you never know…
BabyDiamondShipping: Delia & Giovanni
Two phrases come to mind when people explain this popular shipping: Pokemon Live! and Star Wars. The American musical features an earth-shattering confession from Delia to Samuel. When she was younger, she got involved with the wrong crowd... including a boy named Giovanni, who would go on to found Team Rocket! Argh! Although Delia hastens to add that all this happened "before I met Ash's father," Pokemon fans all over America have considered this a hint that a later connection between Delia and Giovanni will be revealed. And honestly, how cool would that be? If Gio and Delia got together and conceived Ash, this would mean that Ash (the series' hero) and Gio (the series' uber-villain) would eventually face each other in an ultimate battle royal! See? All very Star Wars.
Those opposing Diamondshipping cite both Giovanni and Delia's lack of interest in each other in the other versions of Pokemon/ Pocket Monsters. Delia doesn't seem to know or care about Giovanni's existence in the anime. Nor does Giovanni seem to recognize Ash as anything more than a bratty kid who foils his plans. Still, we simply don't know enough about Mrs. Ketchum's past to dismiss Diamondshipping entirely. Could they have met in Team Rocket or some other point in their pasts? Only time will tell.
Diamondshipping is one of those ships that everyone takes for granted. Surprisingly, there's no website devoted to it, and that's a shame. I'd like to see one... *hint to everyone who reads this page and wants to remedy that*
Eldershipping: Delia & Oak
The idea for this one is simple: Before Tracey appears, practically every time Oak appears, Delia is somewhere near by, and visa versa. They are talking on the phone, or sitting together in the stands, or they mention each other. All this attention...shippers figure it out.
What do I think?
Honestly, I'm a BabyDiamonShipper. It's all to perfect for me. To Star wars. To Pretty Girl and Touch Street kid and I LOVE it.
People will argue that Giovanni never recognizes Ash. Well, if Giovanni split before the kid was born, or before he even knew there would BE a kid, how would he know? Ash says he's from Pallet town, but how would Giovanni that Delia went to Pallet after their break up of what ever sort?
