All About Matt

Matt Pelissier was the former drummer for the band My Chemical Romance. He helped form the band with Gerard Way, the front man of the band, in 2001, just after the 9/11 attacks.

Biography

Leaving The Band
He was asked to leave the band by Brian Schecter after the band decided they could no longer work with him. Matt had issues with guitarist Ray Toro, mainly because he refused to play to a click track during live performances (which keeps the drums at a sterile rhythm). Lead vocalist Gerard Way reportedly said,"It was either Matt goes or Ray goes. We had to drop him". Matt also reportedly made too many errors on stage, which caused intense arguments. Pelissier was asked to leave around the time Gerard was becoming sober. In a quote with Alternative Press magazine, he says "The last time I saw or heard from Gerard, it was when I gave him a hug at the airport." This is referring to when the band had come back from a trip to Japan, where Gerard had decided to become sober. He was replaced by Bob Bryar as the band's drummer.

After The Band
Pelissier now currently works as a mechanic in New Jersey. Since leaving the band, Matt was involved in a serious car accident, though he sustained little injury. Gerard had also stated that Matt caused conflict between other band members and himself, also quoting, "It was hard to tour with someone who wasn't willing to work as a team"

Though My Chemical Romance has a new drummer, Mikey Way admitted that a drastic change had taken place. "We had this huge change, we lost our drummer (Matt) and Gerard was getting sober. It was too big to imagine"

Pelissier has posted comments on the MCR Live Journal on his removal from the band shortly after it happened in 2004.

Discography
Matt has recorded two albums with My Chemical Romance: I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, and Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge. Contrary to popular belief, Matt is the drummer heard on their second album, and appears in the original version of the video for "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)." He had gotten a tattoo of a bat on his hand while he was still in the band, which can be seen in the video. The proper studio video for "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" featured Bob Bryar, who had not yet been asked to be in the band.
