How many times have you sat typing your latest fanfiction and dreamed of making it into a original fiction?
I have been trying to turn several of my fanfictions into original fictions, that maybe I could someday make some money at wink . Unfortunally I always seem to get stuck because I really don't want to write a rip-off of X-Men or whatever.
Anyone have any general tips for how to turn a fanfiction into an original fiction?

All of the best and worst fiction out there is inspired by something. You just have to make it your own. Although, this is easier said than done. I will give you an example to make it easier. Ever seen the movie Kill Bill Volume One? The character Gogo Yubari, I used as a basis for a character called Bloodrose. From there, I made an entire storyline. That is my advice in a nutshell. Pick a character for inspiration and work it out from there. The results speak for themselves.

Changing a fanfiction you'd already written into an original story...I think that would be pretty much impossible. Well...it would be possible, but with a whole lot of effort and confusion.
My suggestion would be to start completely new with the themes and ideas you had from the other fiction. But don't take my word...I've never tried that before O.o

One of the major differences that I've noticed while rewriting is that I have to constantly rember that i don't have all the backstory that you start out with when your writing fanfiction. With the Labyrinth fanfiction I'm doing it's more obvious, because I'm starting after the movie. I rewrote the first chapter and relized that i had to either rewrite the whole first part or set everything up in flashbacks.

Sometimes when I'm looking through some fanfics, this one author wrote a Naruto Fanfiction where Sakura hated Sasuke's guts and he was perverted and etc. Frankly, I found it to be a horrible fanfiction idea, but a wonderful original idea. If the author took extra few moments and begin to flesh out a few things, s/he would have a lovely orginal idea.
