I had an Idea, A great many of us here maybe all of us have a deep and profound love for forgotten realms. It's why we are all members of this great guild. Some of us just read some of us just play many of us do both. Because of this we all have a good deal of knowledge about Faerun some more then others. So I figured we could be each others candle Keep like this thread is where you come to ask questions about things you don't know or don't fully understand in Faerun in time we may even be able to actual create some thing like an online archive from personal and researched knowledge. I for one always hunger for knowledge in real life and especially in Faerun because so much of my happy times is spent there. I would love to have some thing I could print out one day and store on my external hard drive that we all put work into.

Like in Real life BC is before Christ and AD is ano domani (spelled both of them wrong. ) What the hell does DR stand for in time lines.

Or since the only Dwarven race left out of the Thunder blessing was Grey Dwarves. Where are the Gold Dwarven community's and Faerun how many of them are there and how large are they?

Page 78 of the FRCS states that DR stands for Dalereckoning ^^ It's almost at the top, can't miss it if you know what you're looking for.

According to the Players Guide to Faerun the region in which the Gold Dwarves are, or at least the region they can select a regional feat from, is called The Great Rift, Turmish & The Smoking Mountains.

thats because before the year of thunder, that was it! but now they had to spread out a little and those are the majors one found, sure now there is a hand-ful of gold dwarves spread in human cities, but they would be lumped in with the other dwarves that stay there (that doesnt sound right but im not sure how to put it a better way)

Something I've always wanted to know about the city of Menzoberanzen: Just how many families are there, and, with the constant inter-house wars going on, how is it possible that the population is always around 20K? Every reference I've seen to the population has it at 20K.

If I would hazard a guess then the city stays at 20k because in the infighting the fighting is only for the nobles so after the common soldiers know that the old house has lost they switch sides and so only about 200-300 drow die in any given rank battle and also battles only happen every 10-15 years. This gives reasonable time for a house to repopulate between killing rivals. Also if a noble does escape the death of her house she may start a new house on her own keeping the rule intact under a different postion. One thing that must be true though is that they have a slittly higher birth rate then other elves maybe?

i beleive that when they placed those numbers it was at that current time during whichever edition it comes out on and cause of certain events that may uncover through a novel or updated material you might can guesstimate a current poulace according to what you read and researched and since the 3rd edition books for Forgotten Realms books are 1372 DR and we have entered the 1375 DR year it could be hard to guess

I wonder about the Githyanki.. are there any books in which you can read up on their background? Same thing goes for Beholders and Illithids.. I fought those creatures a lot in Baldur's Gate and NWN and was always wondering where they came from..
