Orbiting New Hapes is a moon of a strange black material; it is not hard enough to be turned into armor, but it does distort the vision of whoever is looking at it. This is New Gallinore, the Hapan's primary research facility. Located inside the hollowed-out center of the moon, on the basis of 'What kind of sensor can see through this sort of shielding?', is the enourmous facility where the Hapans study new technologies. It was named after the original Gallinore, called by some the most beautiful of the Hapan Worlds.

The Dinah, Rednal's small personal ship, sunk down through the elevator and docked at its spot in the New Gallinorian Underground Hangar. Stepping out of his beloved vessel, the Hapan moved forward, passing through the security. As the final doors opened, the sight of a hollowed-out moon was revealed. It never failed to impress Rednal. Nodding to the staff, he strode forward to one of his projects.

Dubbed the Gravity Cannon, it was an experimental weapon that created a slow-moving but immensely powerful orb of multiplied gravity; enough to carve through armor and anything else that stood in its path. Unfortunately, it was pretty much useless against faster ships, but it could puncture a hole in Capital Ships and the like to decompress them. Shields were useless against it.

The problem was the power; any ship that carried it would have to be a Capital Ship itself, and divert power from everything (including Life Support, Artificial Gravity, and Shields) to power it. Divert for 10 minutes. Making the weapon powerful, but utterly useless.

"Eh..." he sighed. "Weapons are such a pain. Wish we didn't even need them. Techie!" one of the nearby scientists looked up, twitching in annoyance at the nickname. "How are the other projects going?" the techie walked over, holding up a datapad to read off of.

"Our experiments with gravity, except for the cannon, have gone remarkably well. The new engine has already been tested, and is looking very promising. We're mounting it onto an old Battle Dragon right now to see how it functions. We should soon have the most manuverable ships anywhere. The grenades are also functioning well, both Destruction-type and Paralysis-type. We have also managed to shrink a Mass Driver to the point where it can be mounted on a starfighter; most shields don't deal with physical weapons anymore, especially on corvettes and frigates where the focus is on avoiding laser hits." he explained. Rednal nodded.

"And... the Gravitic Defense Field is mostly operational. It's proving to also be power-heavy, like the cannon, but small-scale tests look promising for its use in combat. We have been unable to make it a point-defense weapon, as planned for, but for blocking the first enemy salvo, it seems worthwhile enough to be mounted onto a Frigate."

"Good." Rednal said. "Shame about not being point-defense, but I guess we can't have everything, now can we? It'll have to do. Start the production of the new ships. We... and our allies... are probably going to need them." The techie nodded and sped off. Rednal looked out a transparisteel window at an enourmous cannon that was sitting on what was, clearly, a ship construction hanger. The cannon was nearly the size of an Imperial Star Destroyer. "Three thousand ton bullets." Rednal said flatly. "That's a Planet Buster for sure." he looked at the ship and raised an eyebrow. Most of it was storage for the one bullet it had. It had no engines, no shields, and not even any areas for crew to live in. The weapon was an expensive one-shot device... that didn't work. "So, the biggest gun we have will tear itself apart before it can actually shoot." Rednal grumbled. "We need to make some new metals or something to keep up with this. All the tests lately are high-stress, and we want our ships to be able to endure all of this junk."
