Hoping this is a place where you can post little facts that are here as food for thought and stuff like that. Contribute all you like. Try to make sure it's credible though, so no arguements ensue >.>
Examples: (And yours first interesting facts!)
Coca-cola was used as a medicine.
It got it's name from the coca leaves used for flavoring from south America.
The Duck Hawk (AKA Peregrine Falcon) is one of the fastest known creatures on Earth.
When dive bombing after it's prey (the duck hence it's name Duck Hawk), the falcon can travel up 200 miles per hour, and still strike it's victim with frightening accuracy.
It's other names consist of peregrine hawk, game hawk, and great-footed hawk.

Did you know that there is a species of catfish that has its brain upside down in its skull and so it swims upside down? Tis true cause we got one in our fishy tank ^^

She ruled for 80 days, and won the war xD

Duckbill Platypus' are one of only two mammals that lay eggs as opposed to having live offspring. The only other mammal that lays eggs is the echidna. The heel of the male Duckbill bears a hollow spur connected to a poison-secreting gland. They get the name "Duckbill" for the duck-like bill on their face.

The word 'Mascara' wich is used as make up, origenally comes from Egypt.
Its origenality comes from the word, "Maskhara" wich means "Foolishness" as in to describe clowns and such at that time.
And I think they used it diffrently too >.>

There are more shark deaths caused by people than there are human deaths caused by sharks. And if I'm not mistaken, the same is true when you put the tiger in place of the shark.

My family and I have recently discovered a controversal subject; all dinosaurs supposedly turned into birds instead of dieing out, and the t-rex has been found to be the genetic ancestor of.... the CHICKEN!

And I just learned in my bio book that that theory is called macroevolution. The more controversial part of Darwin's Theory Of Evolution. ((The other part of his theory is called Microevolution.))

Microevolution is when (for example) you take a specific hawk species, and over a period of time, that single species of hawk becomes several different specialized species of hawks (Red-Tailed Hawk, Red-Shouldered Hawk, etc. etc.) Basicly, they remain a hawk, but now there are variations among the hawks that classify them as different species. I'll get the exact definition from my biology book.

In the movie Fight Club, there is at least one starbucks cup hidden in every scene.
In Kung Pow! Enter the Fist, because they edited a real kung fu movie, the color of the clothes keep changing, the only reason offered for this is that Bettie is a powerful sorcerer with the power to change other peoples clothing (hence the "you're clothes are blue" scene)
Also in Kung Pow, to make it seem that he is actually doing the movie in "dubbed" fashion, Steve Oedekerk says non-sequitors behind his dubbed lines, these include "you broke my cabana, and I use that as a means of shade" and "If you look closely, you'll notice that my left n****e is actually a secret portal to another world"
