The longest bloody books in the world, but some of my favorites. The twelth and final book is supposed to come out soon, but I've no idea as to exactly when its coming.
This was the series that thrust me rather rudely into the realm of fantasy literature. Sure, I'd read fantasy in the past, but it had mostly consisted of children's books, which I hardly consider literature. And now I'm reading Terry Pratchett books. O.o I'm desperately trying to figure out if satirical fantasy is a step forwards or back.
But I digress... Mat is easily my favorite character, though Perrin takes a close second. Rand is somewhere near the bottom with the Forsaken. Even Lews Therin outranks him, at the moment. Pity. He started out as one of my favorites. It's just so hard to like people who've gone mad... I'm not especially fond of any of the female characters, except Nynaeve.
I've heard talk of the series being made into a movie. Personally, I'd rather not see it butchered (I saw what happened to Eragon and Ella Enchanted. I'm not going through that again.) I don't think its very likely, either. I mean, its twelve books long, and each book is long enough to be three movies. The actors would be dead before they could complete it! I just can't see it happening. I hope it doesn't. If it does, I'm not going to see it.

I started to read the Jordan books sometime ago and did fine and then it just seemed to drag on for me. I do love Terry Prachet, satirical liteature is always fun. I find I read it for an escape from the dry very dry textbooks that I have been forced to read.
I have not been a fan of many of the movie adaptations of late as the movie only resembles the book on a superficial level. I am interested to see what they will be doing with the Golden Compass books, the movie is set to come out this winter holiday season. I had not heard that the Jordan books had been optioned by a filmaker.
I am currently looking for some good summer reads any suggestions?

As far as the fantasy novel is concerned, Robert Jordan is in my opinion one of the best authors ever, and certainly one of the best alive today. His ability to create such an immersing world with so many multidimensional characters is truly amazing. It is truly a feat not often achieved to create a world so complex that is so easily accessible to the common reader.

(edit) one of the best fantasy authors (Formally) alive.
Jordan passed, along with his world, last year. there is an author appointed to finish the twelfth and final linear book, but the triad of prequels will never be finished.
