Would I go to a psychologist or psychiatrist about my gender issues if I want an approval letter for T? Are there certain types of psychologists/ psychiatrists that deal with transgendered people specifically? Do I go to them?
...Help? sweatdrop

If you google "transgender therapists in [insert your state/country here]" you should come up with some pretty good lists of therapists dealing with gender issues in your area. That's how I found the therapist I'm currently setting up an appointment with.

Graaaaahhhh, google frustrates me xd Stupid therapists and their being only in Ottawa and Toronto and such. I can't see my parents wanting to drive almost two hours to Toronto. They'll find some excuse why I don't need a therapist at all. Why oh WHY doesn't Brantford carry any gender people? It's only two minutes away, it'd be convenient. But noooooooo. gonk
Maybe I can find some in Cambridge or Hamilton or somewhere in that area. I'll keep looking.

Does the therapist have to be a specialist or can it be any old clinical psychologist or something?

"I'm Medicated...
Well, I don't know much, since I'm a Transgender N00b, but I do know there are special therapists for us. ♥
As for getting a reccomendation letter for T, I think you would have to go to a specialist to get approved. It seems only logical, yeah? After all, they are trained especially for that line of work.
but really, I don't know. D=>
...How are you?"

yeah you'd be going to a specialist on the subject. I had a recular therapist in sunnybrook womans hospital that I went to but since I told her about it she's looking up proper therapy for me. And because I live in Toronto there's apparently a whole building/clinic o.o but she also mentioned possible waiting lists >.<;;;
I'd expect there to be a gender therapist in Hamilton, that place seems to have everything Toronto has, just smaller?

Well, here's hoping. I called family services and I'm waiting on some news. I live in Paris (small town right beside Brantford). Hamilton would be ideal. But if I have to make the drive to Toronto, it's worth it. My parents are finally starting to understand and sympathize with me, so I think now they'd agree to it, no matter the two hour distance.

*lives in Chicago and about a block away from his therapist, is quite lucky* @_@;;
And to Omni - you DO need to see a therapist for T.

Ugh. . .
I see my [["normal"]] therapist today. . .
And I'm trying to work up the courage to bring it up.
I haven't been able to for the past three months. . .
But maybe this time.
