and in there, i noticed the choicers complaining about a government official paying $500 to women in order for them to not get abortions.
of course, there were the "lolz free munneh and i still like aborshun" people., but they are not the point. i don't really like this plan myself, it seems too much like a bribe. but it IS a step in the right direction. the choicers said that the cost of delivering a pregnancy is higher than $500, which is true. if politicians are willing to pay some money to stop abortion, then if they pay for the entire cost of pregnancy (like places like canada, i believe) then abortion should not be neccesary. it would at least put a massive dent in one of the choicer's largest arguments- money.

In Canada we have universal healthcare. So yes the cost of all the pregnancy stuff is pretty much covered, except for things like the vitamins that you needs to take/and perscription drugs that you need. But the ultrasound, hospital visits, if you have to stay in the hospital for extended periods of time (like Danielle did), the delivery, etc. are all covered. Which is probably part of the reason that the rate of abortion is lower in Canada than it is in the States.

and is it not one of their cornerstone arguments? that the cost of pregnancy is too much? (which is a faulty argument as it is- if pregnancy would break you, why have sex? if eating peanuts will kill you, why go on a tour at the Jiff factory?)

It definitely is. Both a key arguement and a faulty one, as it simply gives a reason for wanting an abortion, not a reason they should be able to obtain one.
That said, it is a big issue. If you have someone who simply can't afford to go through pregnancy/childbirth they're more likely to abort the child than they are to keep it, especially with society reinforcing the belief that it's not a human so it's an a-okay choice.
