What if it was legal to induce early labor after, say, the 24th week? That way women have to carry the pregnancy the entire nine months. It would have a risk to the child, but I think it's better than abortion. What are your thoughts?

That's what this solution makes me think of...it sounds like it's trying to appease the pro-choice crowd and the pro-life crowd but it falls short on both sides. Yes, it's better than abortion, but abortion from that point on isn't very common anyway. The survival rate is alrightish, but it requires a lot of money, money that we don't have, and what's to stop women who want to keep their children but don't want to be pregnant from taking advantage of it? A lot of children born that early have health problems too. The hardcore choicers will be opposed to it because it's still making a woman do something with her body that she doesn't necessarily want to do, though there are many pro-choice people who support this idea except for the cost, and the concern that the child would be able to track down the mother (possible lawsuits from injuries and health issues resulting from an induced early birth added on to the existing worries of tracking down women). Also, there's an issue of fetal deformity...many people feel it's more humane to abort "defective" humans. Defective varies from person to person, but can be very minor to very major. How would this affect women whose children are so afflicted, it's legal to abort them even though it's the third trimester and isn't legal electively? Would they have to carry to term or induce birth despite their moral objections to bringing such a child into the world?
It's better than abortion. It needs to be expanded on though. Finances, protections for the women's privacy and waivers so that any damage that occurs to the baby due to the early delivery, she can't be punished for it, a care system for all of them, etc.

Maybe most women who want their children don't want to risk injuring, though I'm not sure on that. I would respond more but it's kind of late right now. Those are all good points though.

You're right, if a woman wants her baby, she won't put him or her at risk. I hadn't thought of that sweatdrop I'm way too suspicious.
I think it seems like a good idea, but there's going to be strong opposition on both sides.

i think it is probably a choice- it's just that- people who want their children will wait until it's safer, and people who don't will just kill them because it's easier.

Sometimes they do induce labor early and sometimes that early but usually only for emergencies cause normally that's too early (the baby hasn't fully devolped yet) which is too risk to do it just because the woman doesn't want to be pregent or wait nine months, most likely the baby could die if it's born too early or have many complacations. I say unless it's an emergency, she is better off just waiting and give birth since it's close to being the third trimestar (sp?). Why get an abortion now? Though it may not be fully devolped let, you can tell it's a human now and by now it has a heart,lungs,ect...and it is possible for it to live if born that early (just much more at risk).

I don't think it's better than abortion, if only because of my experience of early births. But I've already spoken about that somewhere before.
