it was a popular several decades ago... probably used as a cover for the word "pot" (e.g. "I'm going to pick up maryjane around 8", instead of "im getting the pot at 8") since it is illegal.
my mom's name is MaryJane xd

No I meant who do you think came up with it and how did it become so well known... several songs from that era use the name Mary Jane so I was thinking maybe someone wrote it in a song and it became a trend... I just thought it would be interesting to know how marijuana got the nickname, Mary Jane. It's just so clever!!!
Last dance with Mary-Jane One more time to kill the pain rofl

Personally, I think it was the hippies.
I believe one of them had a girl toy and they were doing her and all of a sudden BANG.
" Hey, Mary Jane.. do you smoke Mary Jane? "
Then they were all like, " woooaaaahhh. "
...
stupid caffine.

I think it started to cover up the name marijuana just as all the other aliases do i.e. pot, weed, green, trees, sticky icky, gridgy, green meanie, herb, buddah.
