I don't know how often everyone else checks BnL's blog (I'm a dork and check it about 4-5 times a day...minimum), but recently, Ed has been recording himself playing songs in his bathroom and posting them on youtube. It is very nice for us guitarists because the camera gives a nice shot of the fretboard on his guitar!!! I think he said that he was going to record all of the songs he sang. I can't wait for Wrap Your Arms Around Me!!!

I think Ed may have started the next Youtube craze - everyone's doing it! mrgreen Well, if I had a video camera (or a webcam) and a decent voice, I'd jump on the bathroom sessions bandwagon... xd

I would if I had a video camera!!! The guitar I've got.....and the vocals......are okay. I can record sound through my computer, but not video, so I think I'll take my laptop into the bathroom and record some stuff while my sister's in class for my own personal ammusement...here I go!!!

I haven't seen them yet... I'll wait until I'm very bored.
I would totally do something like that, except I'm not nearly confident enough to post my singing on the internet. xd

I don't get much time to myself when I'm at my house, but I have a lot of alone time at my apartment. I can't usually look in the mirror when I sing. Seeing myself murdering someone else's song always makes me crack up laughing xd .

My sister just borrowed a video camera from the University A.V. department for a project. I could use to do my own "Bathroom Sessions"!!! mrgreen It would be fun, but now that I actually have the opportunity, I think I might be chickening out... sweatdrop I suck.

Speaking of chickening out, I'm thinking of joining an open-mic club at a local cafe`, but I'm not sure if I should yet. I'm a decent guitarist, my voice isn't bad, and I know a lot of songs (though not by a variety of artists... I don't listen to very many different bands xd ), but I'm afraid of chickening out and embarrassing myself. Think I should? And if I do, which BnL song should I play? xd
I'm listening to the Ed Robertson Bathroom Sessions right now. They're fantastic. I like that version of Same Thing.

I feel the same way about my guitar and vocal abilities, but that would be fun. I don't know what BnL songs you know, but it might be best to play one that non-fans wouldn't be familiar with (that way they couldn't compare you to the actual recording). If it were me, I would probably play either Lilac Girl or Wrap Your Arms Around Me. I like the Bathroom Sessions version of Same Thing better than the album recording. love He Makes Me Want Her Again.

I also agree on the whole "play one people don't know" point. Lilac Girl would sound awkward with me singing it, but I could probably get Wrap Your Arms Around Me to work. I have a list of songs that don't sound half-bad on acoustic guitar when I play them (most of the greatest hits and Maroon aren't on there because I have the songbooks for those albums and haven't gotten around to playing through them recently to see what sounds good) which I've put on a spreadsheet (I was bored), so currently my list of BnL songs is: Powder Blue Wrap Your Arms Around Me Hidden Sun Brian Wilson When I Fall Rule The World With Love Maybe You're Right
And then songs by BnL-related bands: Empty House Rescue Us Here, Today, and Yesterday
And then everything else is mostly by Guster. Silly Julia and her multiple Guster songs. xd
That list is a lot shorter than I thought. You must keep in mind that this is limited to songs I've figured out by ear, though.
That was a long post to answer a short question and I apologize.

That was a long post to answer a short question and I apologize. You have a point there about Lilac Girl. I just love playing that one because it has such an up-beat tempo. Out of the BnL songs you listed, the only one I don't know how to play is Rule The World With LoveBy wathching the video for He Makes Me Want Her Again, I was able to figure out how to play it, yay for me!!! Other BnL songs that sound good played solo on an acoustic: HelicoptersWhat A Good BoyLovers In A Dangerous Time (Hey, Cockburn sang it solo!!!) Thank That Was FunYou Will Be WaitingHe Makes Me Want Her Again (as proven by Ed) BnL-related bands: HollowKeep Fading (well, I have most of that one figured out...)

I can do an okay version of Light Up My Room. I was hanging out at a friend's house, and I'd had a few drinks so I wasn't quite as nervous about my singing as I usually was... I know the guitar part to that song like the back of my hand, but I kept forgetting lyrics here and there. Also while I was living at my friend's house (different friend this time) we recorded a bunch of songs on my computer. We did about 10 BnL songs (those were the only ones we knew). Most of them we nailed in one take, although I remember we had to re-do Shoebox about three times. xd Sadly, our little "album" was lost when my computer's power supply went out and fried my hard drive... crying We were talking about recording another batch of songs, but we never really got around to it.
