Weak rays of sunshine caressed the open meadow whose skin was still dotted with patches of gray snow and ice, but aside from that there was new life in the tender shoots of grass that lay scattered about in random clumps. Around the perimeter, dark trees stood like guards, keeping a silent vigil over the lands.
The birds still gone for the most part, and so the crisp air remained whole and unshattered from their cries... Everything seemed rather lonely. Not many had decided to wander out of warm sleeping nooks, despite it being already late noon.
...Except for one hind. She stood grazing placidly a little way from the edge of the tree line. Her pelt of sunshine gold and icy white, back spotted with permantent fawn spots, lay half in, and half out, of dappled shadow. Ears were perked tall, twitching around now and then as tufty little tail stood upright and slightly, almost curled, over her back.
Yep. It was lonesome.

Mosying about the herd as he did everday, the storyteller hardly watched here he was going. He didn't actualy need to anymore; having been the resident keeper of tales for several seasons now, he had walked this very path almost a thousand times, if not more. It was how he spent his days, walking about in the warm sun, waiting for Larn to come along so he could teah the youth of the herd. None of them were his own, of course... None of them ever were. Not since that one hind of his had been taken by gangrene all those seasons ago. Back when he had been an Outrider... just before his prime.
Shaking his antlers with a slight sigh, he wiped the thoughts from his mind. It wasn't neccesary to think of such things any more. Life was better now. He had a purpouse. No harem, but a purpouse. He was the keeper of tales, the story teller. It was his job to teach the little ones the lore and the history of Firebringer's herd. Of Starbuck and Herne, and what Rannoch had done in that fateful battle... It was his responsibility, his calling.
Lifting his head, he noticed the distinct lack of deer out and about. With the snow thawing in the comming spring, he would've thought that the fawns would be playing. Or perhaps the hinds would've been nosing at the fresh tufts of grass as they battled for air from below the frozen waters. It took him a moment to realise that there was indeed a hind out; she was so pale she nearly blended with her surroundings. A sudden need for company washed over the stag, and he didn't hesitate to elect said hind for the job. "Good day to you, madame." He dipped his antlers as he walked in her direction.

The hind started a little as the sudden voice was caught in her ears. Quickly lifting her head, ears pivoting forward, the female relaxed when she saw it was only another deer and not some rabid lera...or something.
Standing almost daintly in her place, the spotted female waited till the buck grew closer before she replied to him. "Good day to you too. You startled me," a natural chuckle fell out with her words.

Oh, lovely. She was a pleasant hind. Recently, Lailoken had been unfortunate enough to have a run in with a rather unpleasant female. She had been quite a bit of fun to argue with, of course, but he really did prefer the sweeter crowd. At least, he was pretty sure he did. With a warm grin, the older stag came to a stop nearby the white hind, pulling himself into the sunlight. The warmth felt so wonderful on his joints and muscles. He could hardley wait for spring, when the flowers would bloom and the sun would shine, and the new little ones would gather round for a good story.
"I'm sorry, dear. I didn't mean to startle you. I'm Lailoken." He nodded once more, dipping his rack graciously to the hind in apology.

She laughed again before speaking, "I know who you are. I havn't been here long, but I'm able to point out most of the herd."
Blinking, she twitched her poofy tail and then returned the head bow, ears flattening as she did so, and then perking up again when she regained her previous posture. "I'm Jyoti." The sunny hind smiled and canted her head, giving another small chuckle. ...One would soon learn she laughed quite often, as if it were as much apart of her necessary actions as breathing and sleeping were.

He had to admit, he had never met such a giggly hind before. That was really saying something, as he had met many a hind in his several years serving the herd. It was pleasant, though, that he had to admit. Almost enjoyable, really. It took away most of the tension that always came with meeting a new deer. "That's quite the skill, then, Miss Jyoti. I've lived here for many seasons, and I still don't know everyone's name." He chuckled heartily, as if it had been a joke. It was true, however. He knew what most of the members looked liked, and he did know many of their names. However, there were always those few who he couldn't place in his memory. He liked to think it was merely because there were too many members to keep track of. His memory, however, wasn't perfect. Not so bad that he forgot things immediatley, of course, but he had forgotten names from his past already.

She shrugged her shoulders lightly to the other's words. "I like to think so, but it's almost impossible to know everyone. There's so many of us."
Emerald eyes glanced around for a second before settling back on the Storyteller. Yet another giggle was given before she asked, "so, what are you doing way out here?" She hadn't seen anyone out in this particular area at this time in quite a while.

It was true that Lailoken wasn't usually in this section of Home Oak. Though he was free to wander amoungst the hinds as the storyteller, he tended to stick near his lovable knoll. It was his throne of sorts, and where he told stories at Larn. It was there that he felt most comfortable. Usually, the hill was dotted with plenty of other deer to talk to. Today, however, seemed to be a sluggish one for Firebringer's herd when it came to doing just about anything. Either everyone was asleep or they had magically disappeared. Either way, it had prompted Lailoken to move around a bit in search of someone to chat with.
"Well, there was nobody in the knolls. So I decided to come check by the forest, to see if any Herla had left the hills in favor of the trees. Apparently, I was right." It was understandable, too. The creek was nearby, and it was really a nice little area.

Jyoti nodded her slender head towards his words. "Not many seem to be out this day, it seems."
