The Characters
Here you'll find some basic information on some of the main characters in the show! I refrain from posting any major spoilers regarding the characters, so don't worry about that. wink 
Edward Elric:
Also known as the Fullmetal Alchemist, he is the eldest of the Elric brothers, though he's often thought to be younger than his brother, due to the fact that's he's unusually short for his age. At the age of 11, Edward lost his arm and leg in a failed attempt to complete a human transmutation and bring his mother back to life. Soon after, he joined the military in order to benefit his search for the Philosopher's Stone, a mystical item that was believed to over-ride the rule of equivalent exchange.
Alphonse Elric:
Younger brother to Edward, his soul was attached to a suit of armor by Edward during the attempted revival of their mother. Alphonse is Edward's constant companion during their journey to find the Philosopher's Stone, and he's often the more passive of the two, having to keep Edward's temper under control.
Winry Rockbell:
The childhood friend of Edward and Alphonse, she's an automail mechanic that provided Edward with his new arm and leg. She is constantly having to repair the automail given to Edward, and is frustrated by his recklessness. Though she is sometimes excessively violent towards her two oldest friends, it is clear that she cares deeply for them both.
Roy Mustang:
Known in the military as the Flame Alchemist, he is a cunning person with a strong tendency to deceive those close to him in order to rise up in the ranks. He's intelligent, and very loyal and reliable when it comes to his friends, though many people misinterpret his good intentions. Mustang is also known to be one of the biggest womanizers in the military, and often declares that he will make mini-skirts a mandatory part of the uniform when he becomes Fuhrer.
Riza Hawkeye:
A close companion of Roy Mustang, she is his subordinate in the military, and very often has to rationalize his decisions and urge him to complete his paperwork. She's a trigger-crazy military girl with a soft side only for her dog and Mustang.
Maes Hughes:
A loyal man with a deep love for his wife and daughter, Hughes is a kind and caring person who happens to have a talent with small knives and daggers. He has sworn his loyalty and devotion to his best friend, Roy Mustang, and is determined to help his friend rise to the top of the military.
Scar:
A murderer that is determined to rid the world of the State Alchemists, not much is known about him. (At least, nothing I can put here that won't spoil the whole show!
