Pastafarianism is a parody religion founded in 2005 by Oregon State University physics graduate Bobby Henderson to protest the decision by the Kansas State Board of Education to require the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to biological evolution. In an open letter sent to the education board, Henderson professes belief in a supernatural Creator called the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which resembles spaghetti and meatballs.
Scientology is a body of teachings and related techniques developed by American science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. It began in 1952 as a self-help philosophy, an outgrowth of his earlier self-help system, Dianetics, and later described itself as a new religion. It says it offers "an exact methodology" to help humans achieve awareness of their spiritual existence across many lifetimes and, simultaneously, to become more effective in the physical world. The name "Scientology" is also used to refer to the often controversial Church of Scientology, the largest organization promoting the practice of Scientology, which is itself part of a network of affiliated corporations that claim ownership and sole authority to disseminate Dianetics and Scientology.

I don't think I'd do something just because Tom Cruise does.

Me neither, I was just saying... After all, I'm not the type of person that would do something just cuz a celebrity or someone I know does it. You know? Maybe if I knew all there is to know about scientology then I could make up my mind. mrgreen

By the poll results, it would seem alternative religions are not the fad right now. I think that's good.

I agree. We should be discussing religion, and science, and pasta, and politics, or maybe not... who are we talking about?

I'm really not sure... Pastafarians are now usually just militant atheists comparing different deities to the Flying Spaghetti Monster. While the idea at first was a decent one, for an argument against Creationism, it spread to something more corrupt. (lol corrupt religion) I would've just preferred the guy who came up with it to have used a different, real religion with 'creationism' in its interpretation instead of making a monster that is now used for the argument, not against creationism, but different deities.
Scientology, is a real scary religious cult... They won't let their members join it unless they pay money for it. From what all I've seen from it, it does seem really scary. By the time the people are in the cult, from what I've heard, they've been brainwashed.
However, the beliefs could be translated into something that actually makes sense, by metaphors and stuff. They're against psychologists, and some medications do help people. So that is dangerous for extremely depressed/suicidal people.
Bah, they both suck bad. There's no better or worse.
