Lolita is a style based off of victorian era little girls clothing. The style in its entirty is supposed to be classy and elegant.
The most common mistakes in lolita are:
1. Not wearing a petticoat, and
2. Having too short skirts (all skirts must be no higher that 3 inches above the knee, unless in ero or punk loli, and then it's about 4).
There are several sub-classes of lolita:
Classic- usually an off-white or floral patterned dress.
Country- basically classic lolita with a straw hat.
Sweet- light colors like pink, sky blue, or white.
Shiro- all white, even the accessories.
Kuro- all black, even the accessories.
Guro- made to look like a broken doll. Wearer can be any lolita type, just with braces and bandages.
Gothic- darker colors, usually black and white together.
Ero- shorter skirts and slightly lower-cut blouses that still show no cleavage.
Punk- usually plaid patterns. Skirts can be a little shorter and is a bit more modernized than other forms of lolita.
Sailor- has 2 stripes at the bottom with a sailor flap going around the neck.
Wa- yukata tops and kimono sleeves.
Qui- Chinese-dress style. Usually has a button-up going from the waist to the collar and part of the blouse overlaps the skirt with slits in the sides.
