Your opinions?
Yeah, it is kinda wrong, and it does hurt the musicians...
But albums and singles are *so* pricey. mad I usaully
download the album, listen to it a few times, and if I got
the money, and I liked the album, I'll go out and buy it.
Singles however, I honestly think should be free. It's basically
just a sample of the album, no? Why not just let people download
the singles for free? It'd certainly boost your popularity, and album
sales. 3nodding

I love Canada.
Awhile back, a judge ruled that it was NOT illegal to share music
files through a means such as computers and p2p programs. I
fully agree with this ruling, as well as the one a little while back
about changing the definition of "marriage" in order to incorperate
gay and lesbian couples who wanted to get married.
Musicans really don't get that much profit from their albums, and
really, it should NOT be about the money, it should be about the
music; making people happy, and spreading the love.
Most of the artists opposed to downloading music are popular,
mainstream artists who only care about the money, not their
fans or the music they make - at least, in my opinion. In fact,
the majority of English bands I listened to were all for it - they
even left thank you messages and had full-length songs up on
theirs sites for you to download.
That's the way it should be.
I am ALL FOR spreading the love, especially with foreign music.
I download music, yes, but if I like the albums, afterwards I
do go out and buy the albums, even with the super expensive
shipping costs and loss of sanity even trying to find the damn
things.
I know that many people would love to have these artists' music,
but they really CANNOT pay for them legit for some reason or
another. What makes someone think that they have the right to
deny and deprive these people of the music they want to listen
to? I have no problem sending these people any files they want,
that I happen to have. All I say? "Give me a moment to rip it" and
"I hope you like it".

I download music, and I have no idea if it's legal or not, but I DO pay for it (10 or 15 cents/song; 10% discount off all songs if you buy the whole album) and I figure that's good, maybe not for the musicians, but for me. So yeah, I'm pretty selfish in that respect, but if someone tells me the artists aren't getting their cut directly because of the way me and the users of the site behave, I'll stop.

Anyways...
...I'm definitely for it. If I like the songs enough, I'll most likely buy the album.

Remember that, Toast. The RIAA says if you download MP3's, you're downloading communism. But if you buy original albums, you're buying HARD NEOLIBERALISM. All that jabbering about artists losing a lot of gold is just a public relationship campaign targeted at customers to make them feel guilty for downloading songs.
As a matter of fact, the only ones who lose or win every time you download a song are the evil Zionist producers that run big record corporations like EMI, which is the money they give to Israel, to defend a s**t-a** little strip of charred desert, just because some idiot said it was their "Chosen Land". I saw on MTV that most of the money an artist makes comes from concerts, advertising agencies, media outlets, awards, promotion campaigns, and personal businesses. They hardly even get anything from record sales. In fact, the reason for why did Metallica sued Napster was probably because their vile producer poisoned their minds with dramatic words.
Considering this, my code of ethics when it comes to getting new music goes down like this. If the artist is well known, download it. If it's a not well known artist, buy it. By "not well known" I mean as in not really well known in your local city: Inodoro, for example, is a practically unknown punk band from Guadalajara, formed by three of my high school friends.
So stop feeling guilty, and every time you want some new music, either fire up your browser and point it towards www.torrentz.com , or fire up eMule and start downloading!

references. xDD
Another thing that I forgot to mention, that I ALWAYS mention
when these topics come up, is this: I don't see how going on the
computer, waiting for a song to download, then burning it off on
a CD is any different than listening to the radio, waiting for a song
to come on, and recording it on a tape. It's the same concept, yet
no one made a big fuss back when that's what was cool. -.-
