After a week of stress I just cant wait to head to the stables. The horses just seem to take all the nerves away. Riding too. The feeling of horse and rider as one makes me feel free and totally relaxed. It's the most amazing feeling.
Does this happen to anyone else.

Well, yes and no.
After a hard week in school I love to escape to the barn, but its not a place to relax. Maybe when I'm grooming... but when I'm riding? ... I have to keep calm and relaxed for a good ride yeah, but mentally I can't - if I stop thinking for a moment and let my mind relax my horse will take advantage of me. I have to be on my toes and thinking about every stride, everything I plan to do, what my horse is thinking about - only then do we work as one. Once I'm out of the saddle, I can begin to relax.

Yeah horses take all my stress and nerves and such away and makes me feel relaxed. It's slightly like that with riding, but more like it's just me and the horse I'm riding working together. My mind's totally on my horse, my riding, and my instructor. Everything else is gone then afterwards I feel great

For me, it's more like the horses take my mind off the old stress by keeping me busy with the new stress. I honestly do not find myself relaxing, actually.

I will fully admit that I am not physically able to completely relax...EVER. When I ride I (just like Antlers) am able to simply put all my other stress in the back of my mind. It gives me a chance to just calm down. I have some major issues dealing with stuff if I don't get to ride at least once a week, I begin to totally flip out at everyone. It's just the way that stress builds up. When I get to the barn, we pull into the driveway, and I clam down. It's a release, from city life and school, and my family and everything...

they really take my stress away, even while i ride. If i'm mad about something i'll go for a ride and by the time i'm done i realize that i was mad for a stupid reason. Even though you have to be very concious of what's going on and not totally relaxing, you take your mind off of other things and what's better to think about than riding? biggrin

Riding horses always reduces stress for me. Unfortunately, I don't have the chance to do it very often DDX ;-;.
