A senior in my highschool hung himself yesterday. When they announced it today, a lot of people were crying and got really upset. I didn't know him very well. I had only met him once, and it was for five minutes, but he seemed like a nice kid. Later in the day though, I heard from a friend, that after the announcment, a lot of people in their class started making suicide jokes. And someone else was saying, "I love how all of these people are upset, but no one knew the kid." And those type of things really kind of hurt me. I cried a few times, not sure why. I guess it was over the idea that this kid was so miserable, that he killed himself, and all of his friends were crying all day. The mood of the school just seemed to be really quiet and sad all day, and I guess I'm upset and writing this, to find people's opinions on this. Because of the people, who decided it would be a good idea to make fun of this kid, even in death, when so many people are in pain from his death. It just sickens me, that humans can't have enough sympathy to shut the hell up and keep their comments to themselves. I have a cousin that tried to commit suicide, and I got really upset. Had he succedded, my heart would have been ripped into to pieces. I can't imagine how this kid's friends feel, hearing all of these things, when it already feels like their hearts have been ripped out and stepped on.

I don't know what to say...but your right about the making fun of suicide. It isn't something that you can joke about. The only thing I can say on that matter is this: Those people are eather 1) trying to handle what happened with looking like a "wimp" by crying or 2) total jacka**es that have no right to say s*** like that. I'm thinking its the latter of the two that those people where in.

thats is really mean of those people. they don`t know how it feels to lose someone they really care about. i lost someone in my family, even if we weren`t really close. but, if anyone had grief in thier hearts, i would comfort them not make jokes about it!

I think those people were joking, because they can't imagen losing someone, maybe because they haven't lost anyone they care for and because the whole school was feeling down on this bad announcement. Maybe they couldn't handle or didn't like the school for being down, and didn't feel comfortable and were joking not to make fun if the kid, but to relax feel more comfortable. I don't know, but I think that could have something to do with it. Not that I approve of it. I'm feel sorry for everyone in your school. That must have been difficult.

Suicide is a permanent solution to life's temporary problems. We can only look forward in hopes of a better future.

Ok, it's bad enough that someone died by suicide in your school, but for people to make fun of someone who died is despicable. If I didn't know the kid, I would probably be shocked, and somewhat sympathetic to his friends. But I know that to be truthful even if its terrible, I know that part of me wouldn't care. Yet I would at least be quiet.
Though, I hope that the kids friends didn't just sit back and take those comments/jokes and whatnot. If it were me, I would have yelled at them, possibly slap them or something. Stand up for the dead guy at least.

I didn't know the senior from our high school but it was sad because a lot of people were crying. Later that day after my piano lessons, the kid after me was sad because the senior from our school hung himself. I have to say that I really despise my dad for what he said to me about his death. He said a lot of heartless things about people who commit suicide and it made me really sad to think my father would say such things. I kind of didn't want to talk to him. People who have experienced their own sense of loss understand that it's really cruel to joke about these things. My mom was really understanding and she said a lot of kind things since she's had her own loss. I just hope that nothing like this happens at our school again.

I can't imagine how this kid's friends feel, hearing all of these things, when it already feels like their hearts have been ripped out and stepped on. Aw... I didn't know why you were so down at school today but this makes a lot of sense. I kinda had a feeling that it had to do with this incident and I feel bad now. Sorry for being a bad friend and not knowing what you were going through! sad I have to say that I definitely did not know the senior. It was pretty sad to hear what had happened to him. Later that day during my flute lesson, a flute senior from band that I know told my flute teacher what happened and said that she was in the same homeroom as him. She said that the seniors mostly did nothing in class. No books, no pencils, no paper. They just sat there and thought about what happened. Personally after studying suicide at school, I think that it is a tragic event that many teens try to escape life problems leaving their loved ones and even people that don't know them hurt. It is something that should be stopped to prevent more hurt in the world than there already is today.

I feel for you. I really do.
I've had a friend commit suicide. And you're right:It's nothing to joke about. When he shot himself, people made jokes about him pulling the trigger, and all sorts of s**t. Let's just say I wasn't the most popular kid in school that day. And the thing is, I wasn't even really good friends with him, we'd met each other like once, but my friends were his friends, so we heard stories about each other all the time. And when he shot himself, all my closest friends went into this horrible depression. and a few of them are suicidal themselves. I mean, i have a bipolar friend who tried to kill herself afterwards, if it hadnt been for her boyfriend in the room with her, she'd be gone too.
And i mean, the last person he talked to was his ex, and she's messed up after it too.
and the best part was at his funeral, all these kids from his school were there, just to get out of school. I mean, you could tell who his friends were, and who was just getting out of school, because he was with the goth crowd, and didn't hang with the jocks and polo wearers. yea.
and even these two girls were sitting in the pew behind my friend felicia( who was his best friend) and she heard one ask the other, "So, who died anyway?"
She turned around, her eyes blazing, and told them to get the ******** out of the church, and if she ever saw them again, they'd better hope they had a good head start.
People are retarded. It makes no sense. I mean, whatever happened to human empathy? Caring for your neighbor? Instead the world's revolving around myspace and iPods, and the next slutty rap song.
I mean, c'mon people, have a heart. He was the hardcore rocker, and he still loved people, still showed that he cared. If the "satanic freak" can show love, why can't anyone else?
