Life's... not fair. The thought tickled at the back of her mind, causing a slight amount of frustration for the yellow, gray-brown and cream female. It didn't make much sense to her that everybody she met seemed to dislike her. The fact that she had only met one other besides herself didn't seem to count for much in her mind. On one hand she missed her family, broken as it was after all those deaths, but on the other, she longed to find a new family, or at least a new pack, somewhere stable to call home.

A little angrily she recalled her brief meeting with that strange black and white dog, the brute hadn't even bothered to give her his name which irked her some, and she sighed. Lesehla didn't at all enjoy feeling as though she were worthless. Yes, she was a rogue, she supposed, but still! The nerve.

Ahead she scented a wondrous thing, water! And a great deal of it too, such a rarity in this awful dry season. Ears perking up, and misty-green eyes showing signs of life once more she picked up her pace, grinning and heading towards the large pool.

Her dark coat was dusted with dirt, and her spine showed through her skin. Her eyes were pale and angry, scanning the area suspiciously as she drank.

When the other female came into view, Hamaki growled softly, a deep, threatening sound. The other animals around the pool sensed the crazy black dog was dangerous, and the small creatures fled. Hamaki ignored them as her one good eye remained locked on the approaching dog.

Tail wagging as she approached the pool, Lesehla ignored the other animals in the vicinity as she slaked her thirst, blissfully unaware of any potential dangers to herself. The young dog had somewhat of a one-track mind, when she wanted something she tended to blank out her surroundings, a rather dangerous tendancy for one on their own. When she had drank her fill she glanced about a little nervously, sensing tension, then realized that it hadn't been her imagination playing tricks with her as it had so often on her recent travels, someone was growling...

Tri-coloured face whipped about, quickly pin-pointing the source of the threat. Lesehla wagged her tail slightly, one ear perked forward, the other swivelling back as she grinned nervously. "Errr... hello there...?" She mumbled, backing up a few paces. Something about this other female smelled strange... and Sehla didn't trust it one bit.

Hamaki watched as the younger one quenched her thirst, her lip curling up into a snarl. She hated meeting other wild dogs, especially females. And this one was obviously not used to being on her own. If she was, she would have noticed Hamaki immediately. One thing the dog couldn't stand was stupidity.

"Greetings." She said flatly, no emotion in her voice. She just stood watching, leaning forward and tense, as if ready to fly across the pond at any moment. She didn't speak again, waiting to see what the other would do. How she loved mind games.

Lesehla's tail tucked up to her belly almost immediately at that flat voice, and she scuffled back a few more paces. Oh... don't hurt me... please don't... was all the terrified wild dog could think, and she was ashamed of herself. Silence made her uneasy, but trying to find a way to break it was even harder for her. The canary-yellow femme didn't want to say or do anything to cause the other to fly off the handle. Finally she shook herself slightly. "Uhm. I'm Lesehla... how do you do?" She managed to squeak out nervously, a frown crossing her features.

Hamaki had a hard time keeping her features in a threatening way. She was laughing on the inside. So young, so inexperienced. She wouldn't do anything to harm his other dog, perhaps scare her a bit. So innocent, she was. So unlike Hamaki. Her past was so riddled with scares at such a young age, her innocence was ripped from her at such an early age, she never experienced childhood.

"My name is Hamaki. And I was doing much better before you came here." She spoke flatly once more, but her eyes twinkled with amusement. She hoped her one good eye wouldn't give away her happy insides.

Huffing a little to the ground, Lesehla's frown deepened a little and she pawed at the dry earth. "Oh, I... I'm sorry then. I seem to be disturbing everybody lately." The self-loathing in her voice only made the youngling hate herself more and she shook her head, sighing.

She wanted to just flop down on her side exhaustedly, but was still rather terrified at the thought of being unable to escape quickly if things took a turn for the worse. She raised her head just slightly so she could keep at least one eye on Hamaki for any sign of trouble.

The self-loathing in the others voice caught Hamakis attention, and she tilted her head ever so slightly to the right. She was used to other dogs being cocky and dim-witted, but thise one seemed different. Perhaps she wasn't a spoiled little brat like the others she had come across. Only time would tell.

"Tell me, Lesehla, what did you do to disturb someone else?" She wondered if it was adolescant games that got her that way, or if it was something more. She hadn't yet moved, aside from her mouth when she spoke, and she stood still as a statue, her posture not getting more relaxed, nor more tense.

"We-ell..." Lesehla held her frown, cocking her head and trying to think of a brief enough explanation for the last few months of her life. "My family... we all kind of split up, none of us could stand to look at each other any longer. I think the death of my brother... and mother was the cause of that. Since I left on my own most wild dogs... most everybody seems to just look right through me, and I don't like it..."

Her ears had flattened against her head, not so much defensively as mournfully, she didn't like a lot of things right now. "And then there was that stupid white and black male, spouting garbage about how illogical it was to even speak to a rogue. He made me so angry!" She stamped a brown banded paw into the ground, a little snarl curling her lip, "I don't want to be a rogue forever... especially if it means always being ignored... or a string of bad first impressions."

Hamaki finally moved, sitting herself down across from the inexperienced female. She was obviously preparing herself for a long talk, getting comfortable and curling her tail 'round her legs.

"Being a rogue has it's ups and downs, just as being in a pack does." She said, her voice still flat and emotionless, as if she was describing the days weather. "Being on your own is wonderful, you can do what you want, go where you want, and eat when you want. But you also get lonely, and there isn't much to do aside from keeping yourself alive." At this she showed the slightest hint of emotion, her voice rising a fraction of a tone higher. She cleared her throat and continued, her voice back to normal. "And in a pack, you get to be protected, and you're surrounded by family and friends. But you don't get to do what you want to all the time, and you have to share your life and meals with others."

With that she put her head back down to the water and began lapping at it, as if she had just said something that could make up anyone's mind about living on your own.

Relieved, Lesehla also reclined to her haunches, still keeping a wary eye on the dark-furred female. Her words all made sense, she supposed, but it was all a little confusing. "I suppose... that's all true," she ventured, "Do you not ever feel lonely though? Don't you ever just wish that their were others around to share your small sadnesses and victories? And wouldn't it be awfully hard to raise a family on your own?" The tri-coloured female cocked her head, and then shook it briefly. She hadn't given much thought to having a family of her own ever, not after the way hers had already fallen apart, but perhaps starting anew wouldn't be such a bad thing.

"I kind of like the thought of being taken care of, and helping take care of others..." She trailed off, unsure if it was really what she wanted. Lesehla knew she didn't want to be on her own forever, she'd already made up her mind on that, without a doubt, but maybe being on her own a while longer wouldn't be bad. Snuffling she frowned, trying to work her way past all the thoughts crowding her mind.

Hamaki watched her, knowing she was the type that would be a wonderful mother. Protective, loving, kind. Unlike Hamaki in so many ways. Yet Hamaki knew she wanted her own children soon. She couldn't help but give a very small smile.

"I agree, to an extent." She said, ridding herself of her smile. "You will make a very good mother. You should find someone and start a family." She said with a nod, her eyes filled with sadness. "Just be protective, and be careful of them, when you find them." She said with a nod and a sigh.

"I think I would be frightened for them all the time... if I ever had babies... my poor brother... and watching my mother pine away..." She whined, low in her throat and curled her tail around her legs, it hurt a lot more than she'd thought it would, after these last few months she'd thought that she would be okay. I was wrong.

Sighing, she lay down, and lay her head on her forepaws. "I would like to find somebody though, you're right on that. I'd just worry that they'd want to leave me." It was scary for her, to even think about opening herself up so much to anyone, the thought that they might just up and disappear like her family had. She'd been the last one there, with her father before they'd decided to go their own ways. She'd seen him double back again though, to go and lay with his beloved, and she was scared that he had gone too. That the grief had been too much for him.

If she could have cried, Lesehla would have. Logic showed her that if she really found somebody to be with they'd probably want to stay with her, like her parents, it was just... scary. It was all she could think of to describe how she felt about it all.

Hamaki watched her with a soft nod, sighing. "I know what you mean." She said, looking at her reflection in the pool of water before her. She saw the sadness in her eyes, and quickly tried to remove it, not wanting to seem weak. She always had a tough act on, even when she was alone.

"I don't think I'll ever find someone to stay with my entire life. But I would love to have children." She sighed deeply once more, looking back up to the female across from her. "But you... you should find someone to spend your life with. Not everyone leaves. And you're very kind, you could easily get someone to love you." She smiled softly, knowing these were the first kind words she had spoken to anyone in a very long time.

Lesehla smiled and wiggled a little closer to Hamaki, nuzzling her gently. "I think you'll make a fine mother. You'll raise them right." She said softly. Her heart felt as though it had finally clambered out of her stomach, and the silly yellow dog had the distinct feeling that everything would start looking up. Perhaps not right away, but nothing happened overnight, and she could wait a little while. The thought of pups was calming, refreshing, and terribly exciting at the same time.

Dusty-hued tail wagged slowly, but her generally friendly personality was winning out over the shy reserve that she held for most first encounters. It was a normal enough reflex, but it still irritated her slightly, she liked it best when she could feel chummy with somebody, and just talk normally, especially about wonderful things like pups.
